    "The Whitbread"

Some of us were there, virtually at the winning post, and still don't understand how they didn't collect on Lettoch.

    2024 Grand National

This and there being no fallers almost certainly due to the reduction in runners making it less of a cavalry charge early on. Of course, the runners who didn't make the cut were, by definition, the less talented.

Dan Skelton and Paul Nicholls primed for two-week title showdown with Willie Mullins

I think there are 23 NH meetings left in the UK season. That means maybe 160 races with the majority worth less than £10k to the winner. Win and, importantly, place money in the big races at Ayr and Sandown is likely to be decisive...

    Aintree - Other Races

The RTV pundits were clearly on Bob Olinger to a man! Not sure what the current guidelines are but Skelton never stopped riding Langer Dan and there was no contact between him and IEP. Potentially, Langer Dan was intimidated but he wasn't impeded so I understand IEP keeping the race. Pretty...

    2024 Grand National

I'm not sure that Walsh gets a totally unrestricted choice. In this case, Townend rode I Am Maximus to victory in the Irish National and Danny has won a big pot on Meetingofthewaters so maybe Walsh was guided towards Limerick Lace.

Makes Lucinda naive then because she said that he would definitely come on for the run.

    2024 Grand National

I have it in my head that some horses mentioned have question marks against them on soft or heavy ground. Galvin and Kitty's Light, who would both have plausible chances on better ground, come into that category. My inclination is to wait until after the Topham has been run to see what the...

    2024 Grand National

For me, the ground will be all important. Today's wind will have helped but there seems to be plenty of rain in the forecast. I thought that the Gold Cup would put Corach Rambler spot on but, like DO, I can't be taking 4/1 this far out particularly since I'd see 'soft' as the absolute limit for...

You mean like the 14/1 shot that just hosed up? Plenty of both pink and blue on oddschecker.

    British Jumps Racing in Crisis

It usually costs less to have a horse trained in Ireland. Prize-money, especially at the lower levels, is up to twice as much in Ireland. Go figure.

    Cheltenham Festival: Friday Races

None, but he already has more wins at Cheltenham than Kauto ever managed. I was quite specific about it being a Gold Cup match up.

    Cheltenham Festival: Friday Races

Kauto was probably half a stone better at Kempton than at Cheltenham. His first two Gold Cups (aged 7 and 8) yielded RPRs of 175 and 178 (185 in his third) whereas his best at Kempton was 191. GDC has achieved 183 for both wins. I'd say that the comparison is quite valid.

    The Willie Mullins thread

Out of 27 races, he picked up prize-money in 25 this year totalling approx £1580k.

    Cheltenham Festival: Friday Races

I reckon that, in a Gold Cup, GDC would see off both of them. Kauto would get his revenge in the KG.

    Cheltenham Festival: Wednesday Races

Last year, Langer Dan won by a head and was raised 6lb. Coming back down 6lb after 4 races is not a huge drop. Going all the way back to the Ramsdens (and before), we have had trainers and owners like Prescott, Martin, Byrnes, Curley and JP who have achieved huge coups. Seems to me that they're...

    Cheltenham Festival: Wednesday Races

Faugheen was 10 years ago and, since then, he's had Yorkhill and Kemboy who have gone on to win G1s over fences. As said previously, Ballyburn isn't bred for 2 miles. The Turners next year and the Gold Cup the year after looks a reasonable shout if he trains on.
