Forum Functions Forum feature requests and suggestions

We have had a lot of new sign-ups recently - if some of you new folks are have any ideas, please let me know. Thanks!

One glaring item is a proper FAQ for the forum. How to start threads, bookmark posts, message people etc. That has been on my to-do list for quite some time.

If no one's ever asked for it, it might not be that glaring.

"If it ain't broke...."

Of course, not switching the forum off and wandering away for a coffee, nuking my latest essay, is one possible improvement.

But I doubt most here would agree as they're up for being spared as many of my monologues as possible.

All good, MisterB, IMO it's a cracking forum.

I, for one, think the forum is great. The new layout and "twiddly bits" took me a while to get used to but I really enjoy it. I used "new posts" and "latest activity" to see what's new or look at my notifications. Sometimes I miss things but I can live with that. And the ignore button is a great tool.....:giggle:

Maybe having more of a presence on social media engaging in a few topics, mind you, there are some wrong uns on there.
Unfortunately the userhandle Talking Horses is already taken on Twitter/X, but some sort of clearly labelled TH account with links to here might drive traffic our way.

Ditto on Facebook, or even Instagram.

But, MisterB or whoever runs it, don't make the mistake the owner of The Racing Forum did and simply use it as a personal account, expressing personal views, often in the personal pronoun, which may not be the views of most members anyway.

Anyone who can work social media could use it to draw attention to lively debates here and now would be a good time to do it.

No one's presence here should be taken for granted, but right now in Slim we have ex-Twitter/X racing/betting royalty, he's much missed by many on that platform and they'd come here in their droves just to read what he has to say on the topical issues of the day.

Bryan I understand that it is a bit of a niche subject but perhaps a topic on Point to Point racing and Hunterchase's a passion of mine may be of interest to some on here ? 🤷‍♂️

Personally id be very wary of drawing anyone in from social media. I think you get flooded with wannabe tipsters and trolls and would quite possibly turn the place into a cess pit.

Personally I think talking horses is currently as free from arguments and wrong sorts as its ever been. You'd always welcome some more of the same ilk as what we have here now but usually thats best done by members introducing people they already know are good eggs or even people who left the forums in the past for whatever reasons who used to be good contributors.

They may have left for reasons that dont exist anymore or even been driven away by some of the more problematic members of the past who aren't involved here anymore.

The only suggestion I can think of is to split the Forum threads into Flat threads, Jumps threads, Other threads. I don't know if that has been done, I am not sure how to find them if it has?

That's a very fair point, actually.

I appreciate Bryan wants to grow the forum, but I'd be equally happy to take the opposite John Cleese/Basil Fawlty of Fawlty Towers route and put a big sign saying: "No Riff Raff" on the door here.

The forums excellent but I would like to be able to edit the post for the rest of the day or it just stays there

Some suspicious people might think that the losers could be removed and winners added 🤔 not that am one of those people you understand 😉
