How do they make it pay, the only horses people will be backing are ones that shorten with the Bookmakers. Perhaps I should reevaluate my betting model.

It does seem an odd question and statement, Sunshine.

But they make it pay same as all other bookies make it pay (although I would guess there is some crossover between fixed-odds punters and the use of the Exchange in this case. Maybe there is some cross-subsidizing).

"the only horses people will be backing are ones that shorten with the Bookmakers." I'd say this is dependant on the types of punters. Personally (and there's plenty of evidence here that others play the same) I'd say this statement is untrue. I guess (and it probably is) true of a specific number or percentage, but what that percentage is (very likely) won't be public knowledge.

I am, ofc, assuming (as the question implies) you're referring to BF Sportsbook and not to the Exchange SP.

Still lots of ways individuals make the exchange pay and still lots of ways individuals don't make the exchange pay.

The former guard their edges, the latter go fishing on fora asking in vain what they are.

They are not moving the odds, they stay basically the same from show till the off, been like that for about a month now.

The downside to being on the wind up most of the time is that, if you ever ask a serious question, some are wary of being drawn in to giving a serious answer.

Fishing/trolling has its price for the author as well as the reader - hard to sympathise tbh.

No idea what you mean. on the exchange the Derby for example City of Troy has been matched at 8/1 to 7/2 for thousands since the 2000 guineas..

Races like the Lochinge eg over 1 million changes hands

I give in, can you not read, from the show odds till the off. Oh dear. On the exchange, I give in, forget it, this thread is washed up.

Betfair take a commission ranging from 2% to 6.5% on winning bets depending on your location
Not just your location, you have a choice of paying a higher or lower commission than you’re given in exchange for other benefits- free bets / offers / money back in losses.

As for how they make their money, I’d have thought any idiot could have worked that out. Some people back, some people lay and Betfair take some money out of the pot without any risk whatsoever to them. It’s really not difficult .

It's a no brainer how the exchange operator makes their money - commission revenue - but maybe the "they" in the frankly imo less than clearly worded initial posting refers to those exchange users offering odds collectively.

Ask a less than clear question, get less than clear answers.

It's a load of nonsense...the market moves rapidly..if you read more article like this you wouldn't post so much garbage.....As of 2013, Betfair had over 4 million customers (1.1 million active customers) and a turnover in excess of £50 million a week.

..

In 2024 its 0... I make it pay, do you Tanlic.... Bit ironic you talking about posting so much garbage, after all, you are the form expert.

I just watched the market changes in the last race......1 minute from the off the horse that finished 2nd 6500 pounds was traded in 5 seconds the total jumping from 27k to over 32k...........The prices are set by individuals and usually higher than the bookies. I've seen a 4/1 shot being offered at 8/1 on Belfair and even as high as 12/1......it's a different world out there but if you were a betting man you would know that....i doubt if you bet anymore than 2 quid if anything
