A day's racing at Fakenham is on the cards tomorrow. I've bought my ticket and shall bus up through the Norfolk countryside to Fakenham town and then walk to the course.

I was last there in May and it was a thoroughly good day out.

It's a very tricky course , is this and I've made my selections but it's guesswork to be honest. Still, I share them for fun.

The Expensive One - 2.00
D'Jo Dela Barriere - 2.35
Call Blue - 3.10
Court Cian - 4.20
Ew L15

Callin Baton Rouge - 3.45
Nickel Force - 4.55
2 x Win Singles
Win Double

Cave Article - 4.20 Ew

I'm looking forward to this. :giggle:

Unfortunately Fakenham usually has small fields which is no good for EW backers like me. These would be my choices in a ew l15 but I wouldn't bet a lot due to their odds and place numbers.

2.00 Ronnies Rules
235 Miami Magic
310 Jeuan Bell
420 Double Powerful

Good luck and I hope there is a free beer tent as there used to be back in my early years at the races :)

Abandoned after one. Race. Slippery ground we’re told. They should be advertising for a new clerk of the course. Absolute shambles

What a day. Did all my bets with 365 before I left.
In the first race, some horses were slipping on the bends. They inspected the track then abandoned the meeting before the second race ffs.
So, got home and checked on three runners I’d done at Uttoxeter in a win patent. Bugger me! Three winners! 7/2, 7/2 , 9/2!
Yes, we’ll get a refund if we apply online to the race course.
Seriously, though, the clerk of the course has major questions to answer. There’s been hardly any rain over the last week and it was described as ‘good going’
So, has the clerk watered the course? If so, why? And then to water the course resulting in slippery going without even realising?!?!
It’s a shambles. Really amateur and he would be lucky to keep his job if it was down to me.
God knows how much money it’ll cost the course. As far as insurance goes, if it’s watering that’s caused the abandonment, the insurers could claim that it’s the result of negligence by the course.

'GoingStick 6.2 at 7:30am, watering finished on Thurs evening. Rails: both chase and hurdle tracks on the outer most running lines. Add 158yds.'

Hmmm....

I think the jockeys were the ones concerned.
I think it was the clerk of the course they were talking to and he was very disappointed. I don't think he thought it should have been called off.

They have every right to be, considering what had happened in the first race.

I bet he was disappointed and, as for him thinking it shouldn't have been called off, in the words of Mandy Rice-Davis: "He would, wouldn't he". I expect most of the utterances from now on will be with one eye on litigation, and legal responsibility. All guesswork on my part, of course and, as you know, I can write some tosh at times ha.

It will be interesting to see if there are any repercussions, anyway, eh?
