Not a getting older thread but getting worried thread.

My mother has twice been put on statins. On both occasions, she has become unwell. She also became unwell with her fourth Covid jab so has opted out of both now. She has rheumatoid arthritis so I suspect that the medication she is in for that disagrees with both.
I had three Covid jabs, two Astra Zeneca which were fine but the third, Modena caused my gums to bleed and my gums have receded significantly as a result. So that’s the last time for me unless the variants become more severe. I’ve had it five times now and although very unpleasant, I can cope.

Yes. I had two Astra and was fine, but the third was a Pfizer and thats when I started to get the palpitations. No more for me either now.

Doesn't surprise me. Covid for the most part has gone away. In my case, I wouldn't have been able to visit my own mother, so I had to choose to do it for her benefit, not just my own.

Mind you you still see the odd person with a Covid mask on on public transport. I'm not sure what that is about. Unless they are just trying to freak us out.

More widely, while I understand Statins aren't for everyone, I would think their main goal of lowering fat in blood is a good thing to aspire to. So the ends justifies the means I think.

With Covid I view a bit differently.

I can see more room for error with those. There are people who have dropped dead after taking the Covid vaccines.

I think that Covid is going to stay for a while possibly getting weaker but with new variants popping up which are harsher than others. Covid has been pretty rife around here recently and obviously I caught it recently travelling to Gatwick by train. It hits me fairly hard from a muscular ache and I did end up going to bed for two day’s but it’s not as severe as my first bout. So I really don’t think it’s gone away but it’s becoming more like regular flu outbreaks every winter.

Statins are prescribed to lower cholesterol which I can understand. That said mine is supposed to be higher (5 as opposed to 4...& they are supposed to worry when it goes over 6) but I have a very good diet (with little to no processed foods), am not overweight, go to the gym and exercise regularly, drink once a week and have never smoked. I think we are all subject to changes in cholesterol due to age or hormone related issues that they don’t take into consideration enough.

I wish everyone the best health and happiness and my posts are not meant to piss people off.
This guy made his first billions by dominating his market in computers and sold and made billions from selling fixes to computers via selling fixes to computer viruses that he made in the first place. I do not trust anything this madman is involved with.
He has bosses that tell him what to do. Mentally ill and these days probably controlled by advanced medicine.

My situation with taking statins fwiw

Approaching 65 I had (I assume) the usual health check where statins were suggested & offered. I replied that as I'd very rarely taken medication could I be given guidance on what I could do instead of taking statins eg more/different exercise, modification to diet etc, keeping away from Outsider's picks (joking of course O). Nothing was forthcoming & I was sent away with no guidance at all so I left it. 5 years later I had another health check where I was informed that my cholesteral level was nearing 20. Guess what? I decided to start taking statins, my level is now near 4 (but I'm still no wiser).

Four years ago I went to my doctor and asked him to send me for an MRI scan because my head was exploding with a constant migraine. He said we were going to treat it as a lifestyle issue.I got stuck into a walking regime and the migraine receded day by day until the migraine disappeared. The following year I did an expensive gym program for 4 months but my trainer was confused by my progress -it was Good as opposed to great.
From June 22 to June 23 I always felt I was struggling -not drinking alcohol and getting loads of sleep helped but I definitely lacked something.
In June 23 I blacked out at the wheel while doing 120km pH -my gambling buddies insist I was 1.01 to die that day.As I have said previously I was diagnosed with a brain tumour and had brain surgery twice and a lumbar drain(absolute fucking hell).
My point is -and I think Colin and 2017 are more or less saying the same thing -we all need to take ownership of our own health -go to a doctor ask informed questions and seek a second opinion if necessary. My starting point for anyone feeling under the weather would be hydrate, get a Good nights sleep and go for a Good walk.Start today -don't start tomorrow or next week or after Christmas -start today. If you don't feel the benefits after a week or 10days be sure to go to a doctor.

Pleased to hear that.

Of course we should all try and control and keep our cholestral low.

The point is, if your levels are simply way too high, you need these lowered as soon as possible, by yes, taking statins, or alike.

Unless someone has a philosophical belief, credible conspiracy theory, or side affects. Or in a country where they don't have a national health service and the individual can't actually afford to buy them.

One thing that's not changed is frustration when being injured or pulling a muscle. Hurt the back of my knee 2 weeks ago and it's slowly repairing itself. Obviously healing takes longer now but my impatience hasn't changed one bit. Still hoping it will magically be ticketyboo.

Yes, I got back from Spain yesterday and will be making an appointment to see the doc today after a number of things happened during the four weeks, none of which [I don't think] can be put down to any kind of excessive activity other than walking (I was probably averaging 4-5 miles a day).

That's a nice distance to be walking every day.
