RP posted this and it grabbed some attention.

What are your thoughts

I'll go with my provisional five

1. Hurricane Fly
2. Gallopin Des Champs
3. Allaho
4. Vautour
5. Faugheen

I'll need to think more on it but that was a quick draft

I'm sure I read earlier in the week that douvan is his highest rated horse at 182 (time form). Energumene was the subject of the article at 180.

Personally, I couldn't have Energ. His 2 Champion chase wins, were rendered a little both times, by his main opponent not turning up on the day.. No doubting he's top class, but he shouldn't be getting beat by the likes of the Moore horse De Gite.

Ratings would be biased against hurdlers and even the likes of Kemboy were rated higher than Hurricane Fly.

Much like most tabloid polls, ask a stupid or unqualified question and you get stupid answers which is, of course, the point.

As an all rounder I would place Wicklow Brave in WPM's top five.
Unlucky not to be a Group/Grade 1 winner on the flat, hurdles and chases he took connections places that it would take a team of up to ten decent horses to manage; all for one training fee.

Didn't Dettori outfox Moore to win an Irish Leger on him ?

100%

Without a seconds hesitation Douvan was the best he ever trained. Go check out his Arkle win v Sprinter Sacres. Despite Douvan racing on much slower ground from 4 out he got to the winning post 8 lengths quicker than Sprinter did. Willie said himself he was the best he ever t.rained. Faugheen, Vatour,
Hurricane Flyl and allaho

1. Livingstonebramble
2. Getaway Gorgeous
3. Jazzaway
4. Dad's Lad
5. Closutton
Reminds me of a discussion in the local pub years ago about the merits of Dawn Run.
" I'd take her on with Sissie any day !" a voice said.
(Sissie was a p2p mare my father owned in the early 1960s , the voice was her jockey's )
" Dawn Run never won over 4 miles carrying 13-7 !", he explained.
Long story short, a picture of Sissie has hung in the Alley Bar since, no sign of Dawn Run anywhere !
