(Even) older forumites might remember this as the Brooke Bond Oxo National and when I was at Warwick university 1981-4 it was only staged once (Bonum Omen won it) as IIRC frost intervened in 1982 and 1984.

Anyway, I saw Mr Vango win his Maiden Point at attritional, undulating, Horseheath and I've liked the horse ever since.

His very best form is right handed, but he has won going left handed and he's going to love it if it's still Heavy at Warwick on Saturday.

3/1 is a lousy price as he's up to 139 now, but maybe he will ease in the betting.

A 9yo, but still so lightly raced.

No weights at the RP site so far but it's looking like a really substandard edition.

A top rating of 142 (Chambard) is okay but there are only 16 declared and they go down to 108 (I'd rate myself higher than that) so some will be out of the weights. Duffle Coat will be top weight (145 in Ireland last time so maybe 148 here) but no certainty to come over.

It's a race I usually look forward to but I'm not so sure about this one.
 
They release the weights on the RP site the day after the initial entries, but we can work out the weights (though the Irish one is an educated guess, agreed) from the latest ORs.

FWIW, I'd have DO on at least 125, but he needs the full monty with the headgear - cheekpieces, blinkers, hood, the lot!
 
I'll be at the course for this one I'm finally following through I my must actually go racing more mantra that I've been saying for the last 20 years. I'm looking forward to seeing Vango myself but not sure the course will suit him those fences in quick succession down the back seem to make Warwick a unique challenge it doesn't give them much time to get organised. Hopefully if I get time I'll post my thoughts on the card may be tough though as I return to work tomorrow after an extended Christmas break :(
 
Currently waterlogged, apparently, Danny - I hope it dries out for you.

I have to say Warwick is a track I think makes for better viewing on TV than actually being there (that mound in the middle of the course isn't helpful).

Mr Vango handled the railway fences well enough so I'm hoping that testing run of fences you allude to at Warwick won't be his undoing.

Wow! Looking at the replay, I wonder who the grey was that fell. Going really, really well at the time, I thought.(y)
 
I had forgot that, Brooke Bond Oxo National, takes me back some. I never been to warwick, yes it looks right easy viewing with cameras, a few tracks do.

In fact, first time you go racing it looks way different to watching it on TV, the realism of horses in the final furlong is an eyeopener as I first remember it. TV does not do the sport justice re the actual movement of a horse near the line
 
I went to Warwick with the late Tony Charlton who was booked to ride a horse for ex footballer Franny lee. After a long drive from Malton we discover the meeting was off..place was like a swimming pool....It was very late abandonment and Franny Lee was already there...driving a rolls at the time he opens the boot and serves us strawberries and a glass of bubbly..helped drown or sorrows for the long journey back....you guys will know better than me but doesn't it flood very easily,?

Yeah but TV has cameras the other side of dirty great big moulds and that can be handy.
 
Not much racing to speak of this weekend with Warwick, Wetherby and now Kempton off.

Not convinced the replacement fixture at Ffos Las will be up to much.
 
We've lost the Schweppes 9 times to the weather..let's hope Feb brings better weather...next big race is The Great Yorkshire Chase at Doncaster in about 10 days or so? One of my fav so fingers crossed it durvived

Well I think some of the races on Festival Trials Day would be regarded as big races I.e. the Cotswold chase and the Cleese hurdle. Not to mention the Clarence House scheduled for Ascot next weekend.

The Met office is currently forecasting a return to double figure temperatures next weekend so hopefully all will be on
