2025 Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Handicap Chase

Libberty Hunter has to be interesting if he goes for this.

He's effective at the track and ran a blinder in the Game Spirit at Newbury.

But I'd also be wary of the novice chaser Firefox off 150.

His hurdles form suggests to me he's potentially a fair bit higher than that over fences.

One that intrigues me is So Scottish
is he just running to give JP a runner.
Hasn't run in a chase since he fell at Cheltenham in December 2023.

I haven't had a bet yet, but at big odds Primoz might interest me a bit if it runs.

This will only be the tenth run of the 7yo's career and he's potentially better than OR 130 in my opinion.

He's had five runs over fences under rules, including one at Cheltenham, where the obstacles aren't as fearsome as they used to be anyway.

The 2m chase ran on the old course at the October meeting was run at a crawl but that would have suited Jazzy Matty - who probably wants slightly further than 2m nowadays - less than anything in the race so while the ratings need to be treated with caution, the conditions of that non handicap race mean he would have been roughly a stone better off with Path D'oroux until that one was taken out at the 6 day stage yesterday.

Path D'oroux was third in this race last year and was himself due to renew rivalry with the first 2 on better terms.

The race normally goes to a higher rated horse but he is a previous festival winner who will stay 2.5 (a useful trait in this race) and will have no problem with GS ground. Cian Collins, who took over following the dispersal sale that saw him move from Elliott has already said this was their preference. He has to have a right chance now he's sneaked in (currently 19 with max 20 allowed)

A bit disappointed to see Touch Me Not still in this. I’m on at 40/1 for the Arkle so hope he goes there but they might not fancy taking on Majborough and L’Eau du Sud again having been beaten by both. Quite comprehensively by the former but I reckon he has a chance to reverse form with the latter as he made what was really a race ending blunder.
I may need to back him NRNB for this but the current price looks a bit skinny

JM certainly caught my attention last night when I did the form, at least relative to Path d'Oroux whom he was meeting on 19lbs unfavourable terms. As you say, it was a very slow race and the third was off just 115. I didn't act then because I wanted to dig a bit more but I reckon I'll be unable to let it go unbacked.

I'm with you on Traprain, Ian.

There was a time where I thought soft ground was essential, but he seems to be able to handle better ground, time has shown.

He's got the running style I'd favour for this aswell, track leaders and wind up the tempo throughout.

An each way chance.
