2025 Jack Richards Novices' Limited Handicap Chase

Jagwar's owner also has No Flies On Him in this race and I thought he shaped well at Navan on Saturday on his fifth start over fences under rules.

He had an Irish OR of 137 as novice hurdler, he's a 2m4f Irish Point winner and he gets in here off 134.

I think he's a potential OR 145-150 horse over the major obstacles and I've taken 20/1 NRNB as, if he runs, I've got a feeling he might be quite a bit shorter than that come post time.

With my NRNB wager scratched, Jagwar will be of obvious interest if sent for us than the imo trickier alternative.

He's had a hike for his latest win, but I reckon there's more to come there.

Fascinating contest this, imo.

I know Harry Cobden has jumped off it but, even so, I could see Insurrection outrunning his odds.

Bolted in at Musselburgh and an 8lb hike for that looks fair.

But dangers abound everywhere you look.

Caldwell Potter looks well sold at €740,000, but the horse has ability and OR 146 may yet prove lenient for an animal who was higher rated over timber.

Springwell Bay has won round here and has a touch of quality.

Firefox doesn't know how to run a bad race and 3m Irish Point winner Asian Master is unexposed at this trip under rules.

But the one who might be chucked in most of all is the 5yo Nurburgring.

He bolted in off OR 139 in a Galway Hurdle, races off just a pound higher in this Chase, and is surely capable of a lot better than he showed at Leopardstown last time out.

His trainer produced one to win the Fred Winter by six yesterday, it was hardly the first time he's done that and there's plenty more where that came from.

As originally stated, just a cracking race this.

I like Springwell Bay even with his weight - he looked well suited by a big field in Jan rather than small novice condition chase fields.

Firefox runs so consistently at the top level that he deserves his day in the sun (which probably means he doesn’t get it). Is Caldwell Potter running because Cheltenham is what his owners bought him for, or because Nicholls thinks he’s a live chance. Mmm.

Just to add Nicholls earlier comments about Caldwell Potter

He's on a mark of 147 and I'd say he'll go for the limited handicap chase, which looks the perfect race for him. If he didn't have the [€740,000] price tag people wouldn't be having the debate about him, because he's run okay this season. We'll have a lot of fun with him and he'll win plenty of races. The only way he'd run in the Arkle is if the ground became very heavy, but I'm not convinced he's a two-miler.

I didn't back him but wasn't that an enjoyable watch?! Not many finer sights than a grey going off like that.

When you back a winner @ 12/1, but had such a mad backer's book portfolio, you barely scraped a profit on the race. 😂

Well done those who properly nailed their colours to his €740,000 mast.

The two best in on their hurdles form are Nurburgring and Caldwell Potter. I’m encouraged to see that Cobden’s opted for Caldwell Potter when his stablemate is top rated. Joseph O’Brien is excellent at plotting up these handicaps so I’m not worried about where it sits in the table.
First and third but what were the other jockeys thinking of, allowing Cobden such a soft lead in a race like this.

He must have a chance given

Easy lead, never touched

Easy game
Couldn’t believe nothing came to him and put his jumping, which hasn’t been the best to date, under any pressure. Maybe nothing else could lay up with the former Grade 1 winning hurdler but a cracking ride from Cobden who’s often so good from the front.

RIP Springwell Bay
