Flatties to follow 2025

STARZINTHEIREYES
He has got a small issue and won’t appear until the second half of the season which is disappointing. Despite who he is by (Starspangledbanner) I think he is a stayer in the making. I would imagine he won’t appear until around the July Meeting at Newmarket or something like that and we will then work our way into the autumn. Something like a Bahrain Trophy is what we could start him in and he could possibly be a St Leger horse. He outstayed them in the Zetland Stakes so you would think that is a realistic aim. You don’t look at him and think stayer, but his way of running would suggest he is. I thought they went hard in the Zetland and he went better to the line than anything else. His profile suggests that further than a mile and half would be where he will be best suited.

RALPH BECKETT STABLE TOUR TODAY

A good friend of mine who I regularly bump into at York races told me to keep an eye out for City of Poets a 3yo trained by James Tate.
It is entered at Thirsk on Saturday (if my memory serves me right he won with Top Rank at the same meeting in 2019).
Top Rank later went on to be listed class.
The trainers two runners today at Nottingham both won readily!!!!

Londoner 4.54 Newbury, Saturday

Ran 9 times at 2/3 yo for Aidan O’Brien. Apart from racecourse debut, he achieved RPR’s of between 88 and 102. All runs were between 1m and 1m 2 and a half furlongs. Sold for 35,000gns to the shrewd stable of Jim Goldie at the end of 3yo career, he was generally disappointing last year. However, his first run, over 1m 3f and off 96, was his best, and a repeat would likely be good enough to win this, now down to 80.

For his remaining 11 runs, he was campaigned between 5f (twice, including second run) and a mile. Although his dam won at G1 level over 5f, I think 1m 2f is his trip.

Sold again last October, this time for 22,000gns, he is now with Daniel and Claire Kubler. I think this is a team to watch. They are gradually building their team, improving the size and quality each year. They seem to gradually improve horses and apply science to identify the ideal trip for each horse. I’m hoping that is 10f for Londoner. If it isn’t, I’m pretty sure they will still do well with him this season when they work him out. I also expect the Kubler’s to have a very good season.

Bet365 put him in at 16/1, which quickly disappeared. Now 10/2, which is currently best price (though other bookmakers probably following Bet365 at this stage).

Ran well to be second after making the running.
One for your tracker.

Jules Winfield.(A. J. Martin)
Ran away with the Bumper at Ballinrobe Friday evening.
Had I had a racecard, (arrived late so sold out) I may have taken more interest.
By Siyouni ex Montjeu mare whose third dam is a full sister to Triptych, this guy was meant for better than Ballinrobe.
That said these Ballinrobe bumpers are no cake walk, Seo Linn was beaten there on debut last year.
Ran with a tongue tie which might explain how a 40k yearling became a 14 k breeze up purchase but one to watch for.

Ambiente Friendly is 13/8 for the Sefton on Tuesday, but I'd guess the Derby 2nd has his eye more on the Coronation Cup,for which he's 16/1 (Hill's) at the moment.

It's a 6600 word document mate, I'm not sure if it would sit well in a general forum reply. Ideally I am looking for a site to host it, I uses to have a site called The Racing Hub feature it but unfortunately the chap that ran the site passed away a couple of years back.
Hello mate any chance you can get this sent over in an email to me if possible please

Thanks

Caught a replay of Consecrated who won at Newbury on debut. She's a Frankel half sister to the Nell Gwyn winner, Sacred and looks more than useful. Interestingly Sacred also won twice at Newbury.

Tnunder Wonnder won very cosy in the 1st at Musselburgh today and will improve for a stiffer test.
Entered at Sandown next Friday and a probable, given his stable.

The Craven Meeting is always a rich source of horses to follow for me, particularly amongst the 3yos , and I've put a raft of them in my tracker.

Hallelujah U - Third in a slow run 10f handicap behind a Godolphin animal, he's related to some nice boats and needs 12f imo.

Double Rush and Gallant. Both came from the 6f 3yo race on the Wednesday. The former won it easy enough and only went up 5lbs, the latter was 4th and was never put in the race - likely a 7f horse.

Stanage. 4yo ex Juddmonte/Gosden now with the Easterby's - he found no luck in running in the 7f handicap on Thursday and looks well handicapped. His sister Coppice was a miler and I think a step up would eek out some improvement. He's also a full bro to Calyx.

Fearnot and Watching Stars. Both ran in the mile handicap won very nicely by King Casper also on the Thursday. Fearnot was third and looked a non stayer (sprinting pedigree and Cox trains) and WS is the opposite - he was fifth and ran over 10f as a 2yo and this was a float up, he looks a middle distance horse.

Organ. Third in a 7f handicap on the Thursday was in the wrong part of the track (far rail bias) and didn't seem to like the dip. Thought long and hard about this one because I don't like the trainer but he was too eye catching to ignore.

Three maidens with the Timeform 'Large P' open to major improvement

Timeform identify three maidens that shaped well in defeat on debut and were awarded the 'Large P' to show they're open to significant improvement.

Antrim (Timeform rating 74P)

Fifth, 1¼m novice, Yarmouth, Saturday 5 April

Antrim has an eye-catching pedigree being by Dubawi and out of a close relation to the top-class dual Arc winner Enable, but he was too green to do himself justice on debut at Yarmouth.
Antrim was sent off the 5/4 favourite, despite being up against a previous winner for the powerful Godolphin operation in Alpine Trail, but he was soon on the back foot after breaking slowly. Antrim also showed his inexperience during the race as he had to be niggled entering the straight with more than half a mile still to run.
He never threatened to get on terms in a race run at a steady gallop that was dictated by the winner Alpine Trail, but he kept on gradually and could be a different proposition with this experience to call on. His pedigree certainly offers plenty of hope and he's in top hands. .......John & Thady Gosden.

The Sporting Life Racing Club

Etawa (82P)

Third, 1¼m maiden, Leopardstown, Wednesday 9 April

Subsequent Group 1 winners Tarnawa and Above The Curve have won this fillies maiden in recent years and the latest winner, Catalina Delcarpio, also looks like a smart prospect after quickening clear in the manner of one set to go on to better things. She wasn't the only filly in the line-up awarded the Timeform 'Large P', though, as third-placed Etawa also shaped well on debut despite clearly being held back by inexperience.
Etawa was last of the seven runners entering the straight and raced awkwardly when first asked to quicken, carrying her head high and wandering around. However, the penny seemed to drop for Etawa inside the final furlong and she ran on strongly to close on the runner-up.
She's from a family the trainer knows well - her winning dam is a half-sister to the smart Eziyra who was placed in a Hong Kong Vase for the yard- and she should build on this promising introduction. ........Dermot Weld.

True Friend (61P)

Fourth, 1m fillies' maiden, Gowran Park, Wednesday 16 April

True Friend, a close relation to several winners including the multiple Group 2 winner Armory, attracted support on debut at Gowran Park and shaped better than the bare result would suggest in fourth.
She may have been beaten ten lengths, but the six-length winner, the 25/1 shot Gotomylovely, ploughed a lone furrow up the far rail and may have been at an advantage. True Friend was only four lengths behind the one who fared best of those who raced towards the stand side, Harana, and probably would have finished closer had she raced handier in a steadily-run event.
True Friend had to pick her way through but put in some good late work and looks likely to take a big step forward....... Donnacha O'Brien.

With you with Organ, Euro. Others for me from the meet:

Elmonjed - 15/4 ran a decent race behind stablemate winner without the blinkers he wore for his successes. Be interested to see how he goes with them back on and on better ground.

Exclamation - 17/4 3rd 5/1 - more smartly away this time and again strong in the finish, but the first two looked a class apart and he couldn’t lay a hoof on them. Wait for six furlongs or lower class.

King of Cities - 15/4 went down by a length with the rest miles away despite being carried across the track by the winner. The stewards “could not be satisfied that without interference, KING OF CITIES (IRE) would have finished in front of ALMERIC if it had been afforded an uninterrupted run to the line.” Maybe, maybe not.

Verse of Love - 15/4 she was in the right place two out, but didn’t pick up and was allowed to coast in. Sights to be lowered?

I was taken with Swagman today at Sandown. He may not have been to the fore as one of the leading lights in the Classic roster for Ballydoyle but it gives them a good pointer for the rest of their team. But I thought it was a good performance and he was having a proper blow afterwards. Can see him going on and improving again next time....interesting.

I suspect that both Charles Darwin and Whistlejacket should be popped into the tracker for Ascot after today for the Coventry/Norfolk and Commonwealth Cup respectively.

I've got five from last week and they came from just two races.

The extended mile handicap for 3yos at Epsom last Tuesday was won nicely by the Boughey trained Celebran but my interest lies elsewhere (partly because young George is one of those trainers I tend to avoid) and I'm tracking Bulletin, Your Lordship and Best Adventure who were 2nd,3rd and 4th. The latter two are both in good hands and seem to be 10f horses on pedigree. Bulletin just ran too well to ignore, I feel this was a good race.

The other good form race was the 10f handicap also for 3yos at Sandown on Friday. The Beckett animal who won this looks a possible group type to me so I can ignore him. The Balding colt who was second, Urban Glimpse, travelled best but faded late on - his price suggested he'd need this and he did run like a horse who lacked an edge in fitness. Gunship was fav and finished like a train from a poor position (Murphy rode this instead of Urban Glimpse) and he's one to back going forward as well.

Forgot one.....Seraph Gabriel who was second in the Esher Cup, he's one for the tracker as well. Will stay 10f, can see him in the London Gold Cup at Newbury and then Royal Ascot. Liked him a lot, top trainer as well.

I’ve got SG as well as a couple of others.

Seraph Gabriel - 25/4 - still fifth with a furlong left having been switched from the rail he finished strongly to within a length of the winner.

Starlit Spice - 26/4 - was still last inside the last two and finished very strongly into fourth. Would like to see her up in distance.

Alfareqa - 26/4 Won easily despite looking green early on, lots more to come
