I decided to add this as there is one entry that fascinates me.

The 5yo gelding Hi Royal has never previously run in a handicap.

And he has three quality pieces of form to his name, all of which were achieved in April or May.

1.75l second to Chaldean in the 2023 2,000 Guineas, 2.75l third to Paddington in the 2023 Irish 2,000 Guineas and 1.25l third to Ottoman Fleet in last year's Earl Of Sefton.

It's not bad, is it?

And three such runs can't all be flukes.

He once had an OR of 115 and I'd say it was merited.

He gets in here off 102, he might have gone at the game, but this seems his time of year and 20/1 would again surely be fair if you knew he was going to run.

It's one of those races that, while not worth the £100k ones I prefer, I always at least like to check out since it is one of those 'traditional' races (and probably deserves 'Heritage' status) that certain trainers/connections like to target.

Another such race for me is the Ripon Rowells even though these days it's really just another race.

Probably just me clinging on nostalgically to the remaining vestiges of my early punting days.

That was the one that caught my eye too. I’m hoping that this isn’t his target though and that something like the Royal Hunt Cup is (although his 2 worst runs were the 2 he has had at Ascot).

The horse I have backed is Cruyff Turn trained by Tim Easterby.
Won going away at Redcar on its latest start and the 2nd Circe (favourite for the race) trained by Richard Hannon has just won at Newmarket.
Loves firm ground and the trainer is hot at present.
9/1 available.

This will be the fourth Thirsk hunt cup he has contested.
Beaten a length and a half when making most of the running on good to firm ground.
Other two runs ground was on the easy side.
Goes without saying the connections would like to win this race.

Happy enough with 20/1 about Hi Royal - should be an interesting race.

Nice one, Maurice - you narrowly deprived me of a TH Big Saturday Handicap Double.

Hi Royal ran a cracker, but in previous years his form has tailed off by June so I wouldn't necessarily be backing him to go one better.
