Hi,

I have been trying to find a definition for of a Novice Limited Handicap race type, there seems to be an increase in them occurring. If anyone can explain in what way they are Limited, I would be grateful, as my AI is down at the moment 😃.

A limited handicap generally has a more compressed weight range than a normal handicap.

I.e. instead of being 10st to 11st12, it will be 10st6 to 11st12.

Thanks Simmo,

Is the compression standard, not varied ?

If it is varied how is that decision arrived at ?

These are the race conditions for Friday's 2:10 race at Market Rasen. There are quite a few of these races around now, and the minimum weight in all of them seems to be 10 stone 5 with 4-year-olds able to carry 10 stone 2. The weight for age scale depends on the distance of the race ( 2 miles, 2 and a half miles, or 3 miles ), and also on the month of the year. One such race at Stratford tomorrow has had to be divided into two races of six runners because another on the card - a class 4 or 5 handicap - had only three declared runners, and was abandoned according to the current rule.

Thanks Jayhawk, as far as my system goes I think I will have leave out these races. There was one this evening the 8.10 at Fontwell. I just think it's an added complication I could do without.
