Irish 2000 Guineas.

I think the quicker the ground the better for Field Of Gold.

I thought it was a good 2,000 Guineas, he should have won it and it's going to take a proper-decent Group 1 miler to beat him today.

Officer and Cosmic Year have potential, but they're going to need it.

On a completely different level to that lot.

Luke getting 12/5 is daylight robbery - he should be locked up! 😂

Blurgh closest I got was the place with Rashabar, I don't think all the jostling helped Officer's chances but fair play Field Of Gold ran away from them in the end

Bit annoyed as I had a CSF the winner, Hotazhell and Rashabar. Berludy Cosmic Year came and spoilt that little earner....

Field Of Gold was an impressive winner and will be the 3yo to beat at a mile this season but I'm unconvinced about the rest of them.

I'm never happy with G1 form unless the winner can hit 126 or more. FOG was probably just shy of that today but it was a step up from Newmarket and he might well be a 130 miler in the making, which would be great for the game. In that regard he reminded me a bit of Canford Cliffs.

I have to say, when you think of how few nowadays are hitting 126 you have to wonder if breeders are getting it right, whereas in Japan they seem to be churning out 126+ horses year after year.

Bad day for me admittedly, but my suspicion that the winner's a speed horse rather than a galloper was somewhat vindicated with Harry Charlton bemoaning the lack of pace.
Much will depend on the field on the day,but I'd say the SJP's far from the laydown it looks at the moment.
Don't go chasing it.

You will clearly be hoping Henri can steal it by swooping late!

I don't have Maurice's purist love of the game so I don't care what rating any winner of any race hits so long as I've backed it.

I'm not in the business of divulging my private ratings (Maurice is more giving than I am) but I'd regard any 3yo who can hit 120 on my scale 3yo Group 1 winner material and I'd be wary of rating any 3yo 125 or higher until it's proven itself at Group 1 level against older horses.

I'm not interested in generalised talk about the quality of "crops" either - all horses are individuals.

As a general rule of thumb, any way of describing anything in racing which is: cliched, facile, or even lazy is the wrong way to be looking at it if you want to stay ahead of everyone else and win long term.

Yes but it's what the racing public understands. Every sport has its own set of clichés for hoi polloi to help them enjoy it.

....and lose money betting on it, giving scope for a degree (ever decreasing!) of latitude about others actually daring make the game pay.

Without putting numbers on it, I've given Field Of Gold the same figure for yesterday as I would have done had he won the 2,000 Guineas by half a length instead of losing it by half a length.

And with a "+" as he won as he liked.

"Is he a 'superstar' like Frankel, Ian?"

Me: "U ok, hun?" 😂

He'll need to win the SJP by the length of Ascot High Street to be getting anywhere near.

Decent colt, though, moral winner of an above-average 2,000 Guineas and there's more performances where yesterday's came from, though admittedly that was against rivals who may need to find a weak one to ever win a Group 1.

The race that holds the most interest for me over the weekend is Sunday's 1505 Curragh Tattersalls Gold Cup (Group 1) 4yo+ : Prize Money £243801.65

It has some really strong trial race trends i.e. since 2000, 16 horses have gone from the Longchamp Prix De L Arc De Triomphe Flat Stakes 1m 4f Group1 in Oct, and 10 (62.5%) have won and 12 (75%) have won or placed. Runners on Sunday that have come from and their positions in the Arc, Al Riffa (11), Continuous (JPN)(15), Los Angeles (3)
I see the Arc trend held true anyway for my top rated Los Angeles even though it drifted a little bit

The rain made all the difference and the horse definitely matured since Newmarket.
The final time was decent so the after burners were on from 2f out .
Fields Of Gold a lot like his sire , he will get better with racing.
Sectionals show a modest pace, which the winner sat closer to,than at Newmarket.
SJP will likely be a stiffer test,Ed.
