The 2025 Royal Ascot Saturday Thread

Dunno Dessie, that Jap horse is supposed to be a monster and I'd be scared of Aiden turning Storm Boy around. I'm on Inisherin apost and have Topgear in a rollover but far from confident.
I was interested in Storm Boy until I looked at his profile and saw that he was foaled in September 2021 - of course he would be having come from the Southern Hemisphere.

My feeling then, was that the Coolmore team may have him as a more long term project, most likely next year, against quite a weak generation of UK and Ireland Sprinters.

Surely it is quite a handicap running against horses 6 months or more older than him at this stage of his career? As 3yo’s would be getting 7lb from 4yo’s at this stage of the season, is it a bit simplistic to assume he is running with a 3 or 4lb handicap?

....Of course I do, Maurice!

As a lifelong narcissist, who consequently lists self-aggrandisement as a hobby, I am convinced that everything is ultimately about me.

If I had gone to church, Shadow Of Light wins.

If I hadn't gone to Church, but hadn't bet the horse ante-post either, Shadow Of Light wins.

But not going to church and betting it was a lethal combo.

Fortunately, God cba to do it me that often - odds-on he just does it when he's bored. 😂

I meant how can you believe God would do that when you don't believe he exists ;)

Because I'm well aware that at least having a religion is a free bet to nothing, whereas the prize for getting it right as an atheist is just nothing. 😂

Anyway, the full brother to a previous winner with a topical name, given the weather, wins the Chesham.

Six races to go at Royal Ascot 2025!

Nice winner

They could have the bubonic plague in that yard and it wouldn't bother Rebels Romance - he's the Chuck Norris of horse racing.

I've loved that immense beast of a horse ever since I saw him one night at Kempton Park in the paddock where he was so huge he blotted out the evening skyline and he must have been twice the body weight of his stable mate Goldspur. 😂

How can you not love this horse, Rebel Romance. Has there ever been a more consistent, genuine horse? The piece Ruby did about him clocking up 73,000 air miles was brilliant. And he's 7 with the most superb CV - hats off to Appleby and the team as this is so deserved.

That Lazzat is a MACHINE (crying shame he's a gelding) and he's won despite the ground - if there's give he wins by the length of Ascot High Street.

Putting a jockey on him who knows the track has to have helped and was surely a smart move.

To emphasise your point, looks like he wants to head off down Ascot High Street now,

Only yesterday Amiloc was discussed and looking for an Arc price before realising he was a gelding was mentioned.

I had exactly the same experience with Lazzat after he absolutely bolted in in the Prix Djebel last year - I could not fathom why he wasn't even quoted for the Poule D'Essai Des Poulains (French 2,000 Guineas) - until I realised the awful truth! 😂

I'm having such a bad day I'm back in glass-half-full mode.

The front two are clearly good but the third's OR was just 102 and Grand Grey (107) was running on into the fight for the minor places. I wonder if there's been a bit of a pace collapse (not for the front two, obviously).

And I hear Topgear lost his front shoes so that run is forgivable, not that it is any consolation.

I did think Elite Status was coming there easily but he went out like a light. Wonder what they're up to with him. The Ayr Gold Cup?

Tbf, Maurice, I don't think the winner had his ground and the runner up (who's run an absolute stormer in my book) has travelled halfway round the world just to be there.

Game of opinions, though.

Look how close to their ORs the 3rd to 6th have run. My bad in an earlier post I thought the grey running on was Grand Grey but it was Jasour.

Makes all under the Stands' rail to win the Stewards' Cup at Glorious Goodwood, makes all up the middle of the track to win the Wokingham at Royal Ascot - fair play to flying 7yo Get It!

I think it depends what your bar is in these races, Maurice.

If you're always looking for the next OR 130+ "star," you're in for constant disappointment imo.

But if anything that can run to OR 120+ gets your respect, I think there have been some cracking displays this week - including in this race.

As we know, the numbers don't tell the whole story - Lazzat beat the third a bit further at Deauville last year.

I think he's a cracking horse at a stiff 6f or an easy 7f - game of opinions, though.

Today has been the trickiest card of the week for me.

Between the Chesham with its unknown quantities, the poor field (generally) for the sprint, the dreadful quality of field for the Jersey, More Thunder just failing to get up - had he broken a fraction faster he'd have won - in the Wokingham, and again lots of unknown quantities in the Golden Gate, it's been tough going.

I'm going to finish the week only very marginally in front but it could have been so much better with better luck along the way.

And I've blown out on the final day in the competition.

I wish I could say it's been a great meeting but there have been too many downs to tip the balance away from the ups.

Still, there's money to be made from plenty of the horses over the coming months.
