Hi All,

i have been working on this horse racing site since 22/05/25 and it started off just predicting the outcomes of races and has evolved to do a few extra things to assist people in choosing a horse. The site attempts to score all races and sorts them in order of best pick to worst pick and still needs some fine tuning.

There is no adverts or spam and it has a few members only features which you only need an email address to sign up with.

What I am looking for really is just people to have a play around with it, see if what they think, good or bad feedback appreciated. Its not perfect. I do plan a subscription model one day IF i can make it valuable enough that someone would pay for it. It has running costs each month and once i can get a few subs I can get live odds other historic data and get more pedigree info but I'm not making money from it yet.

the site is www.smartracecards.com

if you can find the time to have a look and a play around, you can custom score your own races as well, and see what you think. If you want any features added that would make you use it Im happy to consider adding them such as an ROI tracker for your own bets etc. I had flagging of horses, jockeys and trainers set up but had a rebuild last month and still need to build that back in. I am thinking of a competition for users who could either go up against the smartracecards or go up against friends. Im not a horse racing expert so any feedback appreciated.

Thanks

Peter

I've been using computer gerarted software since 1996 till this day and it can have some very good days and most of all stood the test of time

In my mind its number crutching the right data

I have 3 different software programs from back then and they are that old they were on floppy discs.
Basic which I mainly use for the run of the mill meetings CL 4, 5, 6 which is so simple it takes 20mins per meeting to do and I would show the top 3 picks but here lies the problem any of those could win and if you could pick the actual ones decent profits could be made. In some races MAIDENS & NOVICE races I would chose either 1st 3 in betting or R/Post top 3 from their race cards.
Sample

Wolves 22nd Sep

4.25 L 2nd 5/2 L
5.00 3inb 2nd 9/4 L 😁 w15/2 3rd 11/2
5.30 L 3rd 10/3 😁 w 5/2
6.00 L L 3rd 11/1 😁 w11/4
6.30 2nd 12/1 😁 w 5/2
7.00 L 😁 w 4/1 L L
7.30 L 😁 w 9/2 2nd 9/2
8.00 L 2ND 10/1 L
8.30 😁 w 3/1 L L 3rd

In this instance 4 of the 9 races showed 4 selection but the vast majority of meetings will be 3 and 1 with 4. As you can see 7 of the 9 races had the winner and if you could pick the actual ones or even 1/2 profits would be made
Also it was poss to find 48 placepots @ 155

The 1 I use for CL1-3 meetings is purely ratings based and in this case no idea of the price of any horse in the race but in group races will show top 4 (3 in handicaps but now 4 in 12 runners or more). This as found F/C in the hundreds and tri trif in the thousands bot no idea when that might happen, in both cases I have no say what's picked

PS The basic software is very bias towards past CD C&D C winners but more so if 5/1 and under

and so it should .....been there done that.

DON'T ASK A HORSE TO DO SOMETHING THEY NEVER DID BEFORE UNLESS IT IS BUILT INTO THE PRICE (DOUBLE FIGURES)

Sounds a good system pulling all those winers out. I know someone who had a system from the early 2000's or even 90s and he said it was the best one hes ever used and he claims to have tried every system going.

Im using about 20 metrics and applying different weights each one and mixing it up for different types of races. It had the worst day I ve seen it have yesterday since I started but I have been tweaking things and trying to make a better system. Need it to run for a while now and see what happens this week.

I think a few people who use the site use it along with their own systems and choices and just use it to see what it picks and looks closer into its picks and see if they can find a value bet.

You can also mess on with the sliders on the custom scoring an save a the weights you apply to each metric and see what horses you get from the weights you apply.

In the case of both these software programs but the BA
SIC give pts from 5 up to 45 and the horses with placed and won in the last 3 and CD C&D or C and price will be the ones.
The other is based on BHB and R/Post ratings but in different ways for non handicaps or handicaps and a different way for 16 + runner handicaps but some of this season 12+ runners.

Now whether this was me or not around the late nighties it may have been me
This maybe the third software program we're you set all your own weights of % for each rating used but the downside every race you had to start from scratch. Their were some set things by the compiler of the software these were some of things I used

The course
Speed ratings (I set the %)
Up to 4 other ratings (I set the %)
Up to last 6 runs ( 5, 3, 2, 1) and the software would give a rating of 90 (non placed) 120 if last 6 won unlikely.
Price this was set by the compiler and could be 90 up to 130 but never really knew how it worked them out
Every course had a pts system if a past CD winner 1 to 7 pts but the AW meetings back then 7 pts but vast majority of the flat or jumps courses 1 to 3.
Their was an extra 3 pts if it won LTO
Distance winner
Performed on the going
+ another 6 things you think was important if you wished
Then you have to put the whole field through the software then start all over again for the next race
That's why I use the other 2 and the 1 for the CL1-3 meetings its already set up and all aI need to do is name the meeting going number of runners distance handicap or not and I just fill in 4 boxes with the data + a tick for going D C + form
In this case the course and going are their for the next race and do number of runners and D + a tick for both

Jumps use the same ratings but a section for non H hurdles or H and the same for chases + number or runner and distance in furlongs (boxes need ticks or numbers)

I've been doing it for so long its just 2nd nature but can be a nightmare like the other Saturdays Ayr meeting with 2 races with 25 runners but did find the winner in both

Yesterday on the other hand was a poor day but thats life

Thanks for sharing that detailed breakdown - really interesting to hear about the evolution of racing software over the years!

You're absolutely right about the third type being the most flexible but also the most time-consuming. Having to start from scratch for every race would be a nightmare, especially on those busy days like Ayr with 25-runner fields. The fact you found winners in both those races shows the system works when you put the time in!

I've been working on something that might interest you - a custom scoring system that combines the best of both worlds. It's got preset profiles for quick analysis (like your CL1-3 meetings) but also allows full customisation of weights and metrics when you want to dig deeper.Key features:
  • Preset profiles for different race types (handicaps, non-handicaps, large fields)
  • Custom weight settings for all the ratings you mentioned (RPR, TS, OFR, form, course/distance winners)
  • Automatic calculations - no more manual box-filling for every race
  • Course-specific bonuses for CD winners, going preferences, etc.
  • Form analysis with last 6 runs weighted (5,3,2,1 system)
The beauty is you can set up your preferred weights once, save them as profiles, then just select the race and let it do the heavy lifting. Saves hours on those busy days!Would love to get your thoughts on it - here's the link: Custom Race Scoring Algorithm Builder | Smart Racecards

Be interested to hear how it compares to what you're used to, especially for those tricky large-field handicaps

I found away of using my Software over many years for 16+ runner handicaps in my own way and very happy how it works.

This will give me 4 selections in order of preference but any could win or place at any price but 90% will be CL1-3 handicaps only.
Their are a lot more on the TURF compared to the JUMPS

Their will be some complete rubbish ones and fantastic ones

This year the 1st TURF meeting at Doncaster could not have been better in every race but these were the 16+ races

Race 2 50/1 winner
Race 5 22/1 2nd beaten by a nose
Race 7 22/1 winer + 10/3 2nd ex paid 202
Race 8 9/1 winner

So those 20 selections at 1 pt win returned 82pt so that gives me 20 more of those races

No doubt an incredibal day but plenty of bad ones and some with just placed horses
