The 2025 Coral Gold Cup (Handicap Chase)

Unanswered questions going into today's race....

What will the ground be like? (YFUSA is stood by the final ditch three out as he types and 11mm of rain is just starting)

Did anyone successfully read all of Maurice's post?

Is there a horse in the field Outsider hasn't backed?

Will Slim eventually reveal his destructive double?

Why are Danny and YFUSA both online at circa five in the morning? Are they hoovering up the prices on some black market site operating off a single 20-year-old server in The Upper Volta? (Remember, finding winners is the easy bit in this game - getting on is harder and getting paid out is hardest of all).

Happy NOT the Hennessy Day, everyone!

Apart from the redoubtable Outsider, there hasn't been nearly enough use of the term "Corfolio" on this thread.

YFUSA is gravely displeased with almost all of you.

Apologies my corfolio is more of a bore folio

Myretown
Panic attack
Doyen Chief

Are the 3 I've backed antepost but if ive got to add a 4th to try for the quadfecta it'd have to be the Changing man as come hell or high water today, he'll manage to finish 2nd.

Someone somewhere did they needed to know which 6 he'd back and which other 3 he was considering.

Thats not fair most the ones he backed aren't even in the field anymore.

Who cares this forum needs to be more than everyone waiting around for a drip off the golden tit.

I'm going to work god knows what you're up to.

A quick check on yesterday's results at Newbury are saying it's softish on the hurdles course (allowing for them dawdling in Impose Toi's race) and goodish on the chase course so I don't think the incoming 11mm (also forecast by the site I use) of rain will turn the ground heavy but it might turn it against those who were looking forward to goodish ground.

I look forward to this race every year and I think this is a belting renewal. I'm glad we don't have an Inothewayurthinkin in the race off 176 and keeping two-thirds of the field out of the weights (or, more likely, reducing the field to ten runners) as it gives really nice unexposed young horses the chance to take on each other for a mega prize.

I hope it lives up to my expectations both as a spectacle and as a betting event.

Ian, I don't understand your motivation for these barbs.

I admit I don't read many posts on here generally and I often admit I don't read all of other people's posts but I don't openly disrespect them for it. (At least I don't intend to.)

It just makes me glad I'm winding down my involvement in studying, betting and posting on here, especially the lattermost.

Enjoy your day everyone.

If the rain has put an end to my Hyland fling then I'm probably going for:
Katate Dori - because if I fancy Hyland I have to fancy KD
Blizzard of Oz - because Willie's going to win it, isn't he, I don't know why we're all pretending otherwise

Maurice,

There was a time when I felt we shared a sense of humour - banter you are now calling "barbs" was de rigueur - and it came from you as well as me.

I'm not quite sure what happened, but it doesn't feel like that's the case anymore.

Anyway, you feel free to carry on making flippant "Give Way" replies to me (because I really don't mind), but now I know it is one rule for you and another rule for me, I will play you (if I play you at all - too much trouble nowadays seemingly) with the straightest of bats.

I think "Give Way" was a joke about the signs on the A331, or whatever road it was, and not a barb addressed to your contribution.

Which is absolutely fine - I don't mind, it's all part of the forum rough and tumble.

But my post was intended to be equally light hearted - obviously there's some subtle distinction here I'm spectacularly failing to make.

Anyway, it's No 11 sent in as night watchman in fading light for me from now on with Maurice.

Full toss, ball down the leg side, bouncer (odds on), short of a length just outside the off stump or even a long hop - just inviting the lethal YFUSA pull shot for six into the car park behind the pavilion - they will ALL henceforth be met with the straightest of straight bats!

Desert Orchid, yours are probably the only posts that I would read all the way through every time! I hope you don't stop posting.

💯% - if you stay I promise to never comment on one of your postings (which I also always read, I thought that was a given) ever again, Maurice.

I would give you my word as a gentleman on this, but for the obvious issue (me not actually being a gentleman) there.

There's definitely an home team bias on this board the super powers of Irish trainers send a battalion over for this and I dont think anyone's give them a mention.

C'mon Slim lad set us straight. I take it back think Yoricks given a positive mention to one.
If it's Irish you want then my three, as posted on my blog, are Blizzard Of Oz, Gorgeous Tom and Monty's Star.

Now, where are those paracetamol?

I wouldn't normally touch a Mullins horse in a handicap chase over here (Nash aside) but my main bet today is Ifiwerearichman at Fairyhouse (tracker) who was behind Blizzard of Oz first time out so I'm throwing my darts at him, Monty's and Myretown (gone off Hyland with all the rain forecast.)

If it helps fill the void until you find a replacement for a new play mate I'll take one for the team and will accept double amounts of abuse until said play mate is found. Skin like a Rhino me and post Christmas id expect to outweigh one too.

Hinge and Bracket no more....

I have to say it's as difficult a race to work out that I have looked at in a while. And the rain is not helping either.
I did like Panic Attack for Cheltenham but I think that was her target and I have stamina doubts with her in this especially as the softening ground (was it really only 2 weeks ago we were getting walkovers?!)
Myretown has been in my tracker from day one - a classy LR/PS long distancer who is a second season chaser and open to improvement - rain not ideal but his action suggests he should just about cope
Gorgeous Tom - I think the trainer is quietly confident
Blizzard of Oz - well one of Willie's needs to go in the mix so this is my pick and he's unexposed
A couple of bigger prices too
Inch House - Cobden on 10.2 is enticing plus he's a course winner. He's a very unobvious pick and connections may just be wanting another day out as they won last year with Kandoo but I will do a little ew
Intense Raffles - always liked this horse and while he has plenty of weight(OK 5lb claimer on board), he does stay and he does like mud so any rain will boost his chances.

But it's hellish open and I am looking forward to it.
