The 2025 Coral Gold Cup (Handicap Chase)

I wouldn't normally touch a Mullins horse in a handicap chase over here (Nash aside) but my main bet today is Ifiwerearichman at Fairyhouse (tracker) who was behind Blizzard of Oz first time out so I'm throwing my darts at him, Monty's and Myretown (gone off Hyland with all the rain forecast.)
Good luck ☺️

Which is absolutely fine - I don't mind, it's all part of the forum rough and tumble.

But my post was intended to be equally light hearted - obviously there's some subtle distinction here I'm spectacularly failing to make.

Anyway, it's No 11 sent in as night watchman in fading light for me from now on with Maurice.

Full toss, ball down the leg side, bouncer (odds on), short of a length just outside the off stump or even a long hop - just inviting the lethal YFUSA pull shot for six into the car park behind the pavilion - they will ALL henceforth be met with the straightest of straight bats!

That might have worked, Ian, if I knew the first thing about cricket. (I'm having a go at myself there.)

I'd have thought a joke about 'the word on the street' would have been very obviously a joke.

Wondering if people actually managed to read through another person's post or slag them for having a handful of bets in the one race I'm not sure I see the humour in but I'll accept the fault is with me.

I've been wondering for some time if this forum is really for me any more so you'll be relieved to know that I'll just look in from now on rather than post.

Any specific reason for that, Maurice?

Pic Roc backers............

2.55 - Newbury - Pic Roc

Pic Roc is one who perhaps hasn't achieved quite what we thought he'd go and achieve... he was a very good novice hurdler, and then last year he was knocking on the door without winning anything. He then went and won the last time out around Huntingdon, and seemed to get his act together a little bit there. He jumped a lot better and travelled nicely... look, he's obviously been thrown in the deep end with this big race here, but if we have a bit of luck and ride that luck on the day, then we know he's got loads more ability than he's shown, so hopefully we can go and do a bit of nicking.

This race is no stranger to an upset; when I won it a few years ago with De Rasher Counter, I think we were around 16/1. He's definitely got more ability than what he's shown and what he's done so far. But if you go back to his form as a novice, it's very, very strong. If everything clicks on Saturday, then hopefully he'll show his card here. There's definitely a lot more in his tank than what he's letting on, anyway. Jockey

Well, no, I won't be relieved to know that, Maurice, as I've made clear countless times.

I feel like you're playing the victim here, tbh - pretty bewildering as I can remember a time when you posted here you found it amusing that anyone ever takes anything I write literally, or to heart.

As stated, I'm not going to comment either way on anything you post from now on - whether you continue to do that is a matter for you and nothing to do with me.

The most hilarious thing about this beef is that Ian's biggest critique of Maurice is that he would rather read his thoughts than him regurgitate the thoughts of experts. Something that he has repeatedly said over the last year or so. So how it can be inertpreted as anything else other than harmless banter is beyond reason.

Wouldn't it be Ironic if Ian was the only one to have actually read his post 😂

So many reasons, yorick.

There was a time foul language was blanked out - and I'm guilty of finding ways round that - but I've been getting less comfortable with it as old age catches up with me. I find I'm spending more time in church and examining my conscience more thoroughly and I don't like what I'm finding.

Personal insults used to be pounced on by the mods but they're everywhere now.

People can't put up selections without someone snapping at how ridiculous they are or downright telling them to f off.

And that's just the ones that immediately spring to mind.

I've said more than once that my idea of a forum should resemble a lounge where people with a common interest can share opinions and ideas - information, even - without creating unnecessary friction.

This forum is not that.

I know!

How can "I'd rather read what Maurice thinks than what Simon Rowlands etc thinks" be interpreted as anything else?

I take the proverbial out of everyone here, including, I might add, myself!

I've got "FML" on save get!

Can whoever stole Maurice's laidback sense of humour please return it to him because I miss his sardonic quips at my expense even more than I miss being able to return fire without rancour!

I think it's fair to say I put up my share of winners here - and at prices - but I like to have a giggle along the way and I never take myself (or anyone else) too seriously.

I'm ready to move on from this now, plus I need a minute alone as VW has just sent out two losers and I've got to put all those "Buy A Pacific Island An Ocean Away From Walsworth" catalogues in the bin.

Thanks for explaining.

I'd only comment that the swearing doesn't, nor ever will, bother me but each to their own, I suppose.

As for the insults, you're not wrong to say that they're flying around more than ever but I look at it and think that it's just banter, or more specifically not expressed with malice, for the most part, but with a metaphorical glint in the eye, if you know what I mean.

Naturally, if you've had enough, fair do's but I certainly do enjoy reading your thoughts on races and consider these posts to be informative and well researched. It would be a shame if we couldn't carry on doing that, mate.

Yorick this is just plain wrong so was what Maurice said about old mods dealing with things. People have done and said things on here in the past that have been absolutely malicious and weren't dealt with and there are plenty of their victims still around to testify.

I agree.

It strikes me that some will turn a blind eye to others being in the firing line, but the instant they think someone is taking a rise out of them they instantly turn martyr/victim.

I've had people call me all sorts here - and that's not a worry, I am thick-skinned plus, who knows. maybe sometimes I deserved it - but, sorry, it means I've no time for people getting all precious and taking offence when they sat by and saw others get 100 times worse.

Get over yourself, it's BANTER, and I think most of us have been having a right laugh here lately and banging in the winners as we go about it.

Viva TH!

Well, I was more referring to an increasing in banter when I wrote insults - free-range banter, if you like, and in good spirit. Mock insults, if you will.

Can we all just get back to the topic and stop with banter/insults or whatever. You are grown adult men. Behave like them!
