Champion Hurdle 2026

At the end of the day it's a token bet hardly like I'd have my balls aboard for the ride. I dare say I'll have a few of these types between now and the festival and normally if I cop one place it pays for all of them. If a few of them make the line up's at shorter prices than what I take it usually acts as a bit of cover for more serious wagers on the day.

Irancy's true running was in the Supreme Novice. He was beaten 32 1/2l behind Kopek Des Bordes and 5l behind s horse now rated 130. He didn't travel coming down the hill. At Punchestown Mr P.W. Mullins and Paul Townend went ape shit in front and the race fell into Irancy's lap. His mark is a complete laugh and I'm not surprised they are trying to rectify that before he reaches his eventual home with Ben Haslam. He'll win another race, but it will be at Cartmel.

These are the opinionated debates I love and you may well be right.

But, as stated. it's all about the price for me.

We all need something to look forward to and I look forward to being ritually humiliated if that boat wins next March with Irancy on duty at Sedgefield or Hexham the same week.

The price is right. If Irancy and William Munny met in a handicap they'd race off levels and Irancy would need to reverse a mere 30.75l.

Stop looking for angles in the Champion Hurdle that aren't there.

Until you've hit a 5000/1 + trifecta your opinion means nothing to me, absolutely nothing !

It bemuses me why a small e/w ante-post poke would meet such strong resistance. It's hardly a brave thing to do is say someone's 75/1 shot has no chance. By law of averages if every time someone puts up a longshot you say it won't win then you'll be right most of the time won't you. If a forum is a place for discussion on ideas and opinions on whats a decent bet and what's not then there's little to be gained in saying other peoples bets are bad. I think Slim might forget that we're not all professional level and that this is a hobby and bar a 6 year sabbatical I've been at this for 30 years. I've thrown plenty of these tickets in the bin over those 30 years but I've landed the odd couple of crackers along the way. Would I advocate wildly backing longshots for Cheltenham as a sound investment :ROFLMAO: definitely not but it's a bit of fun and nice when one does land. As for Irancy I wasn't too bothered about whether or not he turned out to be a Champion or a woofer but now I'm really emotionally invested in him to prove Slim wrong.

And of course we don’t even know who will turn up on the day.

As has been said, this year’s renewal might not take much winning, so it’s good to have a couple on your side a few months away, if that’s your thing.

I’m staying loyal to last year’s underrated winner.

Tbf to Slim, I love how he will say a 100/1 shot is lousy value just as readily as he will say a 6/4 jolly is lousy value.

It speaks to a very focussed analytical approach and a fearlessness (bismarcking a 6/4 winner isn't like bismarcking a 100/1 winner).

And he writes with passion - I might point out I feel like I'm getting torn a new one from time to time, but I'm not precious about it really.

Cracking discussion for a Monday (or any day of the week) - I've enjoyed it.

Just as an aside, unlike some, I like Nicky Henderson and with good cause.

I don't know him well - and he wouldn't remember me - but I've had a couple of encounters with him, I take as I find, and a nicer bloke you couldn't wish to meet.

He wears his heart on his sleeve and, even if it's a posh heart on a posh sleeve, I can't knock anyone for that.

And anyone who thinks he's an idiot IS an idiot.

He must be beyond gutted about how things have panned out with his horse since his Champion Hurdle win.
Did he get banned a while back for doping his horses or something along those lines?
