The 2026 USA Racing Thread

Pedants among you may accurately observe that Sunday 28th December 2025 isn't 2026, but I've been gagging to start this thread for ages and I cba to go back and find that Belmont thread we've all been posting on.

Three Grade 1s at Santa Anita on Sunday and a chance for YFUSA to deploy his recalibrated USA Data Model, which promises to be so lethal the next 12 months it may impact the currency markets.

Two of the contests are on Dirt, the other is on Turf, and they're due off at 10.30pm, 11.30pm and 11.59pm UK time, so plenty of time to get home from Chaddesley Point-to-Point and tune in!
 
NOTE: The G1 Cygames American Oaks was scheduled to be on Boxing Day but was moved to Sunday due to scheduled bad weather

it’s been 20 (and a half) years since Japan’s Cesario won Japans only American Oaks

 
Main thing I learnt about American racing this year is that Hector Berrios blows hot and cold -capable of riding a five timer but also about 30 consecutive losers.
 
The three Grade 1 races on Sunday are -

10.30pm: La Brea Stakes 3yo fillies 7f (Dirt)

11.30: Malibu Stakes 3yo 7f (Dirt)

11.59: American Oaks 3yo fillies 1m2f (Turf)
 
Today at Santa Anita....

10.43pm: La Brea Stakes 3yo fillies 7f (Dirt)
My Data Model likes Five G in this, but also gives a chance to Magnificat.

11.49pm Malibu Stakes 3yo 7f (Dirt)
My Data Model thinks this is quite open and reckons Barnes, Goal Oriented and Speedy Wilson could all figure prominently.

In my data I have about 90 gr1-3 or listed races in the usa.

The Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes and The Pegasus World Cup AW Invitational Stakes, being two coming up, I wonder how many european or HK horses go to compete in high end races over there?

Short answer not many. However runners in the Gulfstream Park World Cup Turf Invitational Flat Stakes who ran in the previous year have a 4 out of 9 ew strike

Any chance the thread might get back on topic or it going to be yet another vehicle for a piety fest?

I expect your next post on this thread to be about who's gonna win the Pegasus and I shall be gravely disappointed if it's about anything else!

No, it wasn't you, but you're one of the minority I cba to actually interact with, so you copped for it - the penalties of being in my good books!

I actually think the main races have a less-than-vintage look to them and that's when the best bets are often to be had.

I have not a clue. One thing I do know is that this is "slim" who is currently banned for flaming members and acting like a troll. Here he tried to sneak in with a fake account.

And there I was thinking MisterB was posting on this thread to give me the Pegasus winner - "gutted" doesn't even come close!
