The 2026 Lincoln Handicap

You're a star Ian.

I spent a bit of time on this yesterday refreshing my brain with these horses as at the moment it's full of Cheltenham thoughts and I've had a couple of small bets.

Shout 12/1 - this horse caused me a lot of stress last year and has led me change my approach with trackers a bit. He went on mine when 2nd at Newbury way back early last Spring and I subsequently backed him when he was second to Power Fizz at Ascot. He was slowly away that day and his jockey took him near side to mid-far side during the race. It was a very good run.
I didn't back him in the Britannia because I didn't think he'd stay or at Goodwood in August because he drew the coffin box and I must have had a brain freeze because I knocked him off the tracker in September. And of course he wins at a decent price next time out at Ascot. Terrible mistake (my tracker adjustment, I have too many and that leads to unfair cutting so I'm avoiding 6f handicaps next season - just reviewing races in the 7/10f range). Oh, he ran well enough in his last outing behind Crown of Oaks also at Ascot but I feel a less stiff mile suits him better.

Cosi Bello 33/1. This 4yo hasn't run since July but that run (his first over a mile) when fourth behind Fearnot, Bullet Point and Hickory is rampant form. Have no idea if this is the plan but at the price a little on just in case it is can't hurt.

Galeron 5th last year and 7lb lower this year. 40/1

Oliver show 25/1
Theoryofeverything 40/1 gotta have an O'Meara horse
Apiarist. 50/1 had a warm up in meydan
Greek order 50/1
Intrusively 100/1

It is, of course, literally impossible to find the Lincoln winner without knowing that the 12 horses in the Waddingtons Board game Totopoly (which I was undefeated world champion at, along with Escalado), were all Lincoln winners.

I first recall seeing The Hertford win in the 70s and wondering why they didn't jump any obstacles in the race, my first winner of it was Captain's Wings the year they ran it on the round course and my best winner was the outrageously well handicapped Cataldi, left on the same mark despite finishing a close-up fourth in a Champion Stakes run in course record time.

He was actually 16/1 ante-post and 10/1 on the day.

I miss those halcyon days - fuckwit handicappers, fuckwit bookies and Slim probably hadn't even been born yet.

It doesn't get any better than that.
