    Moment In Racing

Great thread btw. It isn't just the result that is special, there is often a defining moment in a race that you will never forget... Banks Hill, the instant when she quickened in the F+M, Denman as he powered round the final bend at Cheltenham, Flint River as he toyed with My Bayard on the...

Don't think National Colour would make much of a Stallion!

    Overdose

Hard to pin down exactly how good he is, but he certainly didn't look short of speed last weekend and his form in beating Intrepid Jack and Starlit Sands relatively easily puts him up there with our leading sprinters....

    Bill Ratcliffe's Bel Cantor

DJ I'm actually coming round to thinking Bel Cantor is better on faster ground anyway... He obviously acts well on heavy (which a lot of other horses don't) but I reckon his best form is on fast ground. I agree though - the self-certs have pretty much allowed trainers to withdraw horses who...

    Sussex Stakes

I'm not so sure. Henry was all out to win today. He has to be rated as superior to Raven's Pass on all previous form, but you would have to say that in a rematch over exactly the same CD and conditions as today, RP would have every chance of beating HTN (albreit he would be the outsider of two)...

    Palace Moon

Very nice horse in the making that one.

The Best A P O'Brien has ever trained

It was when I was watching a replay of the past Eclipses that it really struck me just what a legend Giant's Causeway was. He broke Sakhee in that race and then Kalanisi came to win the race and he fought back and beat him. To raise your game twice against horses of that calibre in one race is...

You appear to have missed out the best horse there. THE IRON HORSE (NAP)

King George VI And QE Stakes

Why so? Are you meant to say he gave it a poor ride before the race?? I thought he gave the horse a poor ride...

    James Willoughby

I thought Willoughby's article on the KG was very good today (although I don't agree with his view on Duke Of Marmalade). He also definitely had the right horse at the top of his O'Brien legends list.

    Diane's Choice

DC is out again today at Brighton. The handicapper only put her up a pound for winning (nice chap it seems) and we have a good kid taking off 5lb today. I would prefer it if the race was over 5.5f furlong, but at Brighton on fast ground, I think she will be fine over 6f. The opposition...

    Coral Eclipse

Their advertised price on Saturday and in the pricewise table was 7-2. When we originally went up with the book we made MN 10-3 fav with Phoenix Tower 4-1. Ladbrokes joined the market on Monday, made Phoenix their 7-2 fav and Mount Nelson 4-1 and even sent out a press release about how...

    Coral Eclipse

That is incorrect. Coral (among others probably) had Mount Nelson as outright fav all day. Ladbrokes were 7-2 in the paper. Presumably connections backed it with them prompting them to go 3s. The fact remains - until that price change they hadn't been with the horse all week.

    Coral Eclipse

Eh? Ladbrokes were the firm taking on Mount Nelson earlier in the week - their PR man was quoted as saying why they fancied Phoenix Tower and made it favourite. I think ladbrokes were 7-2 on the morning, which was pretty much the general price, although there was some 4-1 available.

    Diane's Choice

Thanks rory. Yes, we did have a decent bet on DC yesterday - win only -so it was a bit close for comfort (!), but delighted with the outcome... She had actually run quite a bit better than her finishing position suggested on her last couple of starts at Sandown and Newmarket - a point picked...

    Coral Eclipse

It is a shame as the race had the potential to provide one of those mouthwatering clashes this year - perm any two of Henry, Duke and New Approach and we would have had something to savour. Sadly they apparently all have different targets... Coral bet: 3-1 Mount Nelson, 7-2 Phoenix Tower, 9-2...

    Lydia On The Derby

SL - I don't think it is a case of everyone "turning" on Great Leighs. It was rightly applauded for providing excellent racing facilities when it opened behind closed doors. The criticism came when it had to justify the public paying £20 a head to get into the place.

    Lydia On The Derby

C'mon TDK, clivex, considering that everyone knows the place is still a building site, what do they expect [I] I would say not to be charged £20 to get in and the ability to see than more than about half a furlong of a race!

    Derby Day

I know there are some excellent photographers on here - just wondered whether any were planning on going to the Derby this year? If so could you PM me? Many thanks.
