He's (Nicholls) had his fair share of fallers lately. A few at Wincanton the weekend Ruby was injured, with Harry Skelton breaking his collar bone. Yesterday, Tchico Polos, Gwanako and Pistolet Noir all came down.

I agree with those who have generally expressed positive thoughts of the first three today. I know some were disappointed with Kauto, and I suppose it's a measure of the horse he's been that they can feel that way with a first time out win in a Grade 1 against the previous season's Arkle winner...

I thought it was a pleasing reappearance, all told. Kauto should be sharper for it. I'd still prefer they skip Newbury and go straight to Kempton. Great to see him again, though. Fourteen Grade 1s now. That missing space on his stable door (with the big win plaques) can be filled now. :)

I don't think connections have ruled it out but the last I read seemed to suggest it would be Aintree and that would be it for the season. Punchestown would only be his fifth race of the season, though, so who knows?

Yup. On account of his first mistake. It knocked him out of his rhythm and he couldn't get back into it. I can't think of another horse around that would have overcome it.

Is Kauto normally one to get warm?

Not so sure about this. Denman really is built to carry weight. He did it very well in the Hennessy but does that mean he will be able to run any faster against a much superior horse to those he faced at Newbury?
