    Speed Figure calculation and usage

I use one-on-one comparisons (races run on same day over same trip) and closing sectionals to establish the run of the race. I did use overall times over jumps for a while but they are fraught with danger and not the kind of thing an individual can easily keep on top of.

    Irish Champion Stakes Day

So would I. Which is why I, for one, would not have written "won full of running".

He didn't "win full of running" today. The last 2f was about 2.9 sec slower than Sea The Stars' in running 0.01 sec slower last year.

    RFC Article

A search on Racing Post website for races in 2006 with the word "Sportsman" in their title produced 57 results, including the "Group 2 The Sportsman Newspaper Hungerford Stakes" and the "Read Kieren In The Sportsman Handicap". The only thing that was missing was "The Sportsman (We Are So Busy...

I agree. An excellent piece of commentary, imo. I contacted the paper to tell them that. The Sportsman paid salaries to a small number of staff from September 2005, to a larger number of staff from January/February 2006, launched in March 2006 and folded in October 2006, so it could be argued...

I think you'll find that filed under FORM. :-)

    Analyze this!

I wrote about the bounce theory (or should that be "The Bounce Theory"?) some time back: http://betting.betfair.com/horse-racing/general/should-we-be-bothered-by-the-bounce-theory-160108.html Edelman's book is well worth getting, btw.

    Analyze this!

I'm surprised you say it was as boring as fuck. To me, form analysis is just about the most satisfying "intellectual" pursuit I know of, and that has been the case for over 30 years. I would get a kick out of it even if I never had the pay off of a bet.

    Analyze this!

Just to follow up Euronymous' opening point, this isn't really a specific approach to analysis but I am a strong believer that punters can place too much store by what has just happened (aka "availability bias") rather than see the bigger/longer-term picture. The Arkle might have been an example...

    Analyze this!

I use sectional times primarily to identify the ability of a horse that may not be immediately apparent from its performance otherwise and in order to establish the pace of a race after the event. By pace analysis I meant more the forward-looking aspect of things, whereby you might reckon the...

    Analyze this!

Racing analysis should be as multi-dimensional as possible, without adopting hare-brained approaches for the sake of it. Of the above, I take account of all other than: dosage (there are more robust ways of analysing pedigrees, imo); jockey form (though I am looking into this currently to...

    Harbinger injured ...

I thought the sectionals - which, to give you credit, you brought up in the first place EC - were indeed an important part of understanding the result of the King George. They show that the horses behind Harbinger were running slowly at the end of the race (in part because they had been trying...

That'll be the useless Evening Time who won a listed race by 5 lengths and was second in the Phoenix Sprint as a 3-y-o.
