Now I'm regretting not having more of those 33s! I gather he was the subject of a coordinated plunge on another forum.

I Interesting that Nicky said he hasn't had Hyland right all season, and that he's only just begun to show something. If that's right, he performed amazingly well to finish a close up 4th in December at Ascot. Am I getting carried away if I say he's one of the best handicapped staying chasers...

I was at Cheltenham for the Gold Cup in 1992, and a friend asked me to put some money on Cool Ground for her. After laughing I said 'Of course'. 33/1 was freely available in the main ring before the race. The trouble was, as an impoverished youth, I was in what is now known as the Best Mate...

Yes. All his wins and all his best performances are on good or good to soft. Probably the best one can hope for as far as he is concerned is good to soft, because even if it wasn't raining they tend to ensure that the going on the first day is softer than good.

This may be of only minor relevance to the choice, but he's won twice on the old course, i.e. the Ultima course, thrice if you include hurdles. So, talking my book, I favour the Ultima!

Thanks, right at the top! I thought it might be. Given Gordon's positive words about the National after the Galmoy, I think triple figure odds are tempting.

Falco will be short odds to follow her in in the 4:35. And Bucksy vying for favouritism in the next.

Dessie, Gerri Colombe doesn't have an RPR, presumably because of his lack of recent chase form... I wonder what it would be on his best form?

Two runs over hurdles and then a run at the rear in the Thyestes. You wonder, are they really aiming at the National, at his age. But he's not inexperienced, because he started young: 9 chase runs already, if you include his 2 French chases as a 4 year old.

Interesting to see my fancy Jordans up there. I have been wondering if this was the plan for him. 7 years old is not ideal for a National, though.

A couple of weeks of sunshine might do it. May is the new November! Mombasa definitely has something.

1-3. No Tackle got in the way of the forecast. VW's drought continues. And that feeling in my waters is my chronic UTI. Keep drinking the cranberry juice.
