I looked at last year's race again, and it seemed a little inconclusive. It felt like Brian Hughes didn't dare test his stamina too much by putting him into a race with Mr Vango too far out, and so he wasn't truly tested ... He did seem to stay on at the end though. Inconclusive but not enough...

Deffo wait until Thursday. Grand Geste is shorter for the Great Yorkshire the week after.

Yeah, nice! And you'd have to say that last year's Peter Marsh, off 8 lbs higher, was his best bit of recent form ...

I didn't take this post as whataboutery ... more as making the point that these criticisms of JP are criticisms of the game, at least of the game as widely played by many people.

Outlaw Peter, 33/1 12:55 Kemp, is too big, if there's a chance he can perform to previous levels. I assume there is such a chance, as he went off fav on his return. Now down a further 2lbs. Cobden rides PN's other horse, but at 33/1, you can't have everything. Not much e/w juice of course, only...

Bleu D'Enfer 2:15 Musselburgh, 40-1 ew. I do like Jet to Vegas in this race but I think it's a more open contest than 40-1 would suggest. And I like Charlie Maggs for 5lb.

Me too with the Jukebox Man. In the KG I saw everything I was hoping to see from him and I agree he can do better over the more testing trip. The only thing that stops me doing more now at 8s (9s on the exchange) is what you say about the range of possible races that the GC can be on the day...

Yes, all makes sense. If you were going to pick who stays 3 miles 2 at Cheltenham though, would it be Jango over Jukebox? And the scrappy jumping is a significant disadvantage in the most competitive races.

Interesting that some would take Jango or Gaelic Warrior for the GC out of that. If you ask me Jukebox Man outstayed and outfought them. And he's the best jumper of the three, with more to come. To my mind, if they all make it to Cheltenham, he only has the defending champion to beat.

I know Konfusion is meant to be still well ahead of his rating, but I think he's making the price for Knappers Hill today. KH is well in on his smart older form, had a satisfactory comeback run, and will stay. To me, 4-1 is value.
