Backing Venetia Williams' Chasers In November with Andrew Mount

8/1 for me on Thistle Ask. It’s obviously a good bet, if it wins at 3/1. But I totally get why the forum call Skelton a cheat, and worse.

    Ian Davies OUT!

Skelton, handicap, fit horse. Thistle Ask at 14/1.

2025 Melbourne Cup - Race Prediction, Tips, Picks, & Expert Thoughts on Which Horse Will Win On The Day

I remember being in Sydney in 2000, during the day of the MC. I remember watching a kids tv programme with my very young neice and nephew, and marvelled at the conversation between a blue bear and a green lion. They were exchanging info on who would win the MC. “The race that stops a nation”.

Callan wins that particular duel. Anyway, I’m going to leave this thread alone now. I’ve sort of proved a point that in-form amateur jockeys win more races than jockeys who have had fewer recent rides under rules. But bookies allow for few ricks, so the recent form thing tends to be factored...

Another one tomorrow! The 16:22 at Nottingham, a ‘Gentlemen only’ (like, wtf) amateur riders flat race. Erieann Cagney rides again, as does Henry Callan. They are the jocks with the best recent records, so that's where the money’s going. But at 9/4 and 100/30 we’re not getting rich; or...

Minus 6 now. However, the horse plugged on for a fourth and some ew money. He actually drifted to 10/1, and in the best traditions of an after timer, I lumped on. £2.50 ew. Say it quietly.

1:20 at Leicester tomorrow. The obvious contender here is Tightly Bound, with Henry Callan (1-1) jocked up. New trip and a tongue-tie. Two points win at 9/2.

The placed Elliott horse meant we made half a point profit on the race; running total is minus 2 points. And there’s the 12:50 at Newbury today, where our man Eireann Cagney is on the favourite Made All. Fletcher Yarham - a recent winner - rides the second favourite Expressionless. Both one...

Hi Outsider - yes, and HC Swan on the favourite. That’s where my one point each will be placed. And JH Williamson who is riding at 2-6, gets the EW money at 16/1 (a GE Elliot horse) - 0.5pts ew. I fancy Gordon Elliot to have a big day at Cheltenham tomorrow.

Pooroldmackley is now a NR. No bet today, but there’s an amateurs’ race at Cheltenham tomorrow.

Thanks for this, Ian. I think it’s a classic example of shortcuts having their limitations and eventually coming undone. I suppose it’s in my nature to go looking for a few shortcuts. But, tbh, I don’t think I have the level of curiosity in me to seek out the extra layers of detail that ekes...

    Amateur Jockey Races Thread

Morning all, There’s an amateur race today at Ludlow at 16:37. Only four horses, sadly, but Eleanor Williams is the only jockey with recent form in the book (1-3, over the past 14 days). Two points win on at 4/1, Pooroldmackley.

Thanks for that, Ian, and of course you’re right. But for the purposes of this thread, I’m sticking to the ‘14-day’ rule, as published in the RP.

From the past 14 days, yes. The thread looks for the ‘shortcut’. I don’t know these jockeys of whom you speak. I just back the horse whose jockey has relevant form over the previous 14 days.

No relevant jockey form to assess, for tomorrow’s amateur race at Exeter. Next race is a steeplechase at Ludlow on Thursday.

13:55 Bath tomorrow. Only one real qualifier: Fletcher Yarham, with a 1-1 record in the last 14 days. The horse is a 22-race maiden - can our boy eke out the necessary improvement to push and shove WANNABEAWALLY to his first win? 2pts win at around 4/1.
