Skelton’s Mydaddypaddy and Real Quartz won as easily as you like, but it didn’t really tell us much except that they can handle the hurdles, Mydaddypaddy particularly well. Dan Skelton said afterwards that neither were fully wound up and he’s bringing them along slowly. Another day without...

Yes, according to the race iq data (which I’m still getting my head round, although it looks quite interesting) he was pretty poor so far as jumping was concerned. Had the best finishing speed percentage which brought him home.

Although Into The Park was kept up behind the leaders he never seemed at the races to me and didn’t find anything towards the end. Disappointing. Our Boy Stan lost an awful lot of ground over the jumps and had to work hard to overcome that and win by a neck. Needs to get a lot slicker over the...

Ones that have had a glaringly obvious "strange" ride...

I think both camps are right. On the one hand not everything is a plot, on the other hand not everything is out to win as its primary objective in a race.

A couple of notebooks: 1:30 Sandown - Into The Park was favourite and a bit unlucky last time in a Class 2 at Uttoxeter - 17/10 didn’t get the clearest of runs and held into a neck second place - this one should be slightly easier. 2:40 Sandown - Nardaran is up in class, but that shouldn’t be...

Well, I got the bit about Kalif Du Berlais right, but nowt else. As Nf19 pointed out, the market called it. I ignored it :( Having a day off today, I’m up to my ears in horses. Need a break.

Backing Venetia Williams' Chasers In November with Andrew Mount

Yes, I’d go along with that. As I said on my blog My notebook runners the favourite was always doubtful and although I thought JPR One was the one to beat I also said there were four that could. Throw in the market move and it wasn’t really that much of a surprise. Certainly nothing to be crying...

Thanks all, it was a brilliant day. I hadn’t realised how much I”d been missing it. Didn’t start well with Megan Fox falling off Maitre En Science after jumping the third. Caballero Cliff had drifted like mad so left alone and enjoyed Captain Hugo winning. Khrisma was a non-runner so was left...

The 2025 Coral Gold Cup (Handicap Chase)

Haiti Couleurs looked terrific today at Newbury. Won what I thought was a hurdle prep run for this and if he turns up is going to take some beating.

Sober Glory never broke sweat and was pretty impressive, as was Kadastral in second who wasn’t pressed to beat the rest of the field with ease. Matty’s Getaway was heavily outgunned. Since we’re not off to Madeira this winter we’ve rejoined Newbury, so it’ll be our first visit for a good few...

    Jockey News

I guess one of them must have been Kadastral who is highly thought of, who was on his hurdle debut and facing a red hot favourite who was a steamer and who won as easy as you like. True Harry Skelton didn’t knock him about, but if you expect such a horse in such circumstances to be put under...

Agree. I use “What’s new” primarily to navigate the site. That gives me “Latest posts” which is what I’m looking for and also “Latest profile posts” which seem a bit of a waste of space to me, certainly I never look at them.

2:30 Chepstow: Matty's Getaway, cost a bit after winning an Irish point and showed a lot of promise on his rules debut - 10/10 raced mid division and was badly hampered three out, it was a strong effort to recover and run into third. He’s well thought of, as are several others in this and it...

Similar from Gerard Mentor. He ran a decent enough race, but lost momentum at the last when challenging. Cost him second, maybe, but he wouldn’t have got near the winner. He won’t do better. Nothing today,

Point Blank: AK Bets Was Always a Prick

Nice one, slim, but it’s a very narrow and somewhat iffy description of the common man. I’m off to Newbury this week and it’ll be full of common people who are there because they enjoy seeing horses and watching them race. - many of them won’t even have a bet. And it’ll be full of common people...

Inis Oirr was a waste of space, but Pure Carbon more than made up for it, hanging on to win nicely. Shortened to evens from 5/2, but I didn’t add because I was so busy with the shed. It’s up now and we’re back home. 4:20 Hereford: Gerard Mentor ran a good race last time -18/10 looked as though...
