    If Carlsberg did bookmakers.......

But the stupid thing is Ian, i cant view any of the prices on my laptop but i can see them all on my phone.

    If Carlsberg did bookmakers.......

Add Oddschecker to the list of muppets as well would you please. Apparently i have used up my quota for looking for a price on one today.

    If Carlsberg did bookmakers.......

And that is the important point mate. They just dont give it time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As i have explained in my post above, this is where judgement, experience, knowledge should be used. Just by closing someone or restricting them after just a couple of bets is complete lunacy. How do they know...

    If Carlsberg did bookmakers.......

Good stuff mate. You are not being blunt Ian, you are just giving your honest view. And everybody is entitled to do that. But bookmakers DO have people winning money off them and they tolerate it. Granted, nowhere near as many as years gone by but they still have some all the same. Long...

    If Carlsberg did bookmakers.......

:) I dont think i have ever drank it mate and if i have it would only be one. I was never a lager drinker. It was always bottles of Double Maxim or Newcastle Brown for me. And then i moved into the cider years. As for the fraudsters, we both know that they are all as bad as each other. But...

    If Carlsberg did bookmakers.......

They definitely wouldnt be any of the garbage that are around today. And some of todays "bookmakers" (fraudsters) wouldnt be within a zillion miles of Carlsberg or any other reputable alcoholic beverage. And the likes of Skybet and a few others would be compared to those pissy 6 bottles for a...

    2yo race distances

Slightly (?) off topic but there is a bag of liquorice allsorts in the cupboard and it reminds me of the days when the Bertie Bassett Apprentice handicap started off the turf season at Donny many moons ago. It meant that an apprentice led the jockeys championship for half an hour. :)

    Sunday 19th May 2024

Nice shot mate. But dont give up on Admirals Sunset. She travelled well for a long way and maybe just needed the run this time. There is still a race or two in her. And probably at her beloved Stratf.ord

Two bits of advice everyone should adhere to. Believe what you see - NOT what you hear. Dont ever listen to tips !!!!!

    My "Dark Horses" to watch.

Never heard that one before mate. It just made it easier if you were betting to win a hundred or two hundred or fifty or whatever. And the story goes that it was an "earner" for the runner when his bookie sent him to have something back at 14/1 elsewhere and he would ask for 100/7. That was...

    My "Dark Horses" to watch.

I remember it mate and i replied. But this sort of thing happens many, many times a day, every day. And owners, who were always given preferential treatment back in the day, are mainly just treated like the rest of us. Like dirt ! Owners were always flagged up back in my day and would nearly...

I bet they wish they had only gone 11/2 as well :)

    My "Dark Horses" to watch.

I actually missed off the bit i came on for regarding this topic. Why dont we ever see headlines in the RP saying "Everyone can have a bet up to £50 today, no questions asked" with a firm, (or even £25 would do). In this day and age, it is not much to ask. But no, all we get is this ridiculous...

    My "Dark Horses" to watch.

Hello Robicheaux and good luck with that one. He looks quite well handicapped now and a trip of around a mile on decent ground looks his thing. I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that Spittin Mick has a plan for him but only he will know it. I doubt his son even knows  He keeps his...

    My "Dark Horses" to watch.

And lets face it, the days of "real" bookmaking and "proper" bookmakers are long gone. I dont know why I, and many others, go on about it so much because it isnt gonna change. No matter how much we whinge. But then again, i do like a whinge. Too many gimmicks, not enough "proper" betting. Too...

    Lockinge Day

That is sad mate. And we all know why. Give me a quiet Tuesday afternoon at Sedgefield or a peaceful Thursday at Hexham any time. Saturday at the races does not exist any more for me.

    My "Dark Horses" to watch.

The objective when going up with early prices is to be as close to SP as you possibly can be. But that is easier said than done. But with study and knowledge and experience etc, getting close with most is a job well done. I just dont see that these days. The time and effort and attention to...

    Lockinge Day

I remember it well Ian. And as a backer of the horse, it is a painful memory. But "thats racing", as they say. It would have caused carnage in the in running market on Betfair if that had been around in the day. And how sad is it that nearly everyone i know wont go racing on a Saturday ...

    My "Dark Horses" to watch.

Spot on ! Bet365, Powers and Hills were the three and none of the others had the knowledge or bollocks to go up first. Hills dont do it as much as they used to and now it is either 365 or Powers who are left to lead the way. Bet365 are always stand out on a horse or two in a race and...

My favourite track for watching and punting is Sandown. For sheer beauty and value for money, you cant beat Hexham. I have to agree with yorick. I just cant get away with Ludlow and i'm not particularly fussed on Plumpton.
