End of the line for Fist

He was very ill the other year and didn’t post for ages. Is there any chance that he is recovering in hospital?

    The 2025 Queen's Cup Handicap

Well, my lad ran honourably as usual. Pleased that a horse with a similar profile won. Good to know that you don’t always have to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds for a good horse. ( just saw his horse box go by: he’ll be tucked up in his stable by now).

End of the line for Fist

I was thinking about him today. It’s very worrying.

Wise Eagle has never been out of the first two at Musselburgh…

    What are you watching

I think it’s the most romantic film I’ve ever seen ( I’m not usually into romantic films) especially the bit with Alice. I hadn’t, till that point, realised that there was a love story developing between Alice and Uncas ( how beautiful is he).Although I always think about a time after the film...

    What are you watching

I’ve just been recommended Black Snow so it’s another one to add to the list. The good thing about A Thousand Blows, given that we’re watching it with the family, is that, unlike Peaky Blinders there are no steamy sex scenes! But do wish they’d show season two a bit sooner given that both...

    What are you watching

Just binge watched A Thousand Blows on Disney. Very good as one would expect from the team behind Peaky Blinders.

    The 2025 Queen's Cup Handicap

Do they allow dogs at Musselburgh? Probably too far for us to go but it’s a track I’ve never been to. Mind you, it’ll be rammed next week.

    The 2025 Queen's Cup Handicap

Wise Eagle has never ran a bad race at Musselburgh so I’m not going to desert him. Thankfully they seem to have decided not to pursue his hurdling career. Adams horses are running well at the moment, too.

    Euaptor … C ( Persian King x Aurora Gold )

I was only thinking about Timmy Murphy today and wondering what he was doing. I always used to back the bumper horses he rode for Fergal.

The 2025 Scottish Grand National (Handicap Chase)

That’s another ear worm for me…

The 2025 Scottish Grand National (Handicap Chase)

Liz Doyle doesn’t bring many horses over here, does she? Always makes me think of Mrs Doyle from Father Ted and I get an ear worm of ‘ aargh, go on’ and have to make myself a cup of tea ( which I am currently drinking).

    Aftertiming thread

As you know, I follow Adam Nicols runners. Well, today I had my first ever successful ew double thanks to Trailblazer and an *unpronounceable one! Well chuffed for me and the stable. Fake a Mac!

Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

Watching Looks Like Troubles Gold Cup has brought back so many memories of that era. Strong Promise coming third ( I bought some flowers for the garden with my ew winnings) only to die at Aintree, just as his old adversary One Man had done when Strong Promise was out for a year. See More...

Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

I still can’t forget that injury that Eric’s Charm sustained. They’d made such a bit thing of it being his last race before retirement.

    The Mullins Machine

But that only happened once. Can’t help but feel it’s going to happen on a regular basis with the Mullins horses now. I wasn’t aware of True Selfs success. That really is a brilliant piece of race planning. Looking at Thousand Stars ( who I always assumed was trained by Ted Walsh) he was pretty...

Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

Could you pass on my condolences, too. I loved her name so always looked out for her. Why do these things seem to happen to the smaller stables?

    Talking of Cover versions:

Oh that video! I went out and bought a ‘best of ‘album and listened to it over and over again. They warned his daughter how she would feel about seeing the video.’ Be careful ‘they said. The way he closes the piano at the end too. Bitter sweet, heartbreaking but so beautiful.

    The 2025 Grand National

There was another Topham in which it said he finished ‘very tired’. I don’t really know much about the horse but from what I’ve read up on him post race he seems to have been a superb jumper and one that gave his all in his races. And that probably took more out of himself jumping than the ones...
