    2025 Morebattle (Handicap) Hurdle

Wise Eagle is just a grump. The other horses at the stable stand by their gates asking for carrots. He stands in a corner glaring at you. But I love him to bits and won’t be watching the race because I’ll lock myself in the bathroom which is what I’ve done ever since he started running over...

    Pentangle/Al Stewart…

60 degree burns at 11. His son died. He suffered from thyroid problems, depression, found himself living on the streets then got shot in the eye in a park when some kids were messing about with an air rifle. I think I’ve missed a few things out too!

    Pentangle/Al Stewart…

Yes. The Roy Harper song was mentioned and played in the podcast. It played several cover versions of his songs but I found that none of them were as good as the original version. He had a lovely voice. Strangely enough, I’ve only just watched Joker, even though I bought the dvd years ago. His...

    Pentangle/Al Stewart…

Have just listened to the podcast ( 499 more songs to listen to now). I’m now thinking that he must be referenced in one of my favourite books, White Bicycles by Joe Boyd, so I’m going to dip into it. What a sad, tragic life. Having said that, he influenced so many people and, who knows, without...

    Pentangle/Al Stewart…

The only album I’ve really listened to is Zero She Flies which I played non stop for ages a few years ago. I thought I knew all there was to know about Fairport et al but you never stop learning. Ashley Hutchins ( also still going strong) gave a talk at our village hall years ago. A friend of...

    What are you watching

Hopefully, if I can negotiate my daughter’s tv I’ll start watching it tonight. Currently watching House of the Dragon. What I like about it is that, like GOT’s there’s not a lot of use of blue/green screen etc. I always watch the special features feature that shows how they filmed everything...

Staying at my daughters next week She has Netflix. If I can work out how to use the tv I can watch American Primevil.

    Songs you'd forgot about.

Remember the tv series that Jasper Carrott made with Robert Powell; The Detectives? It was really good.

    Songs you'd forgot about.

No Milk Today by Herman’s Hermits is like Bus Stop by The Hollies. Both beautifully crafted songs. I often dig them out on utube and have a quick blast. Another favourite of mine is the Mathews Southern Comforts version of Woodstock. I’ve got several Alison Krauss cd’s. I must relisten to them.

    What are you watching

Starting on This Country now. My daughter loved it but I never really got into it. But it’s a good follow on from Am I Being Unreasonable. I like Charlie Cooper. He reminds me of Mackenzie Crooke. I need something to recover from accidentally watching a few minutes of Question Time when I was...

    Binge reading

I was pretty lame for several months a few years ago and, even though I didn’t miss any work, when I was at home I pretty much sat in a chair all the time. I caught up with so many films that I’d been meaning to watch.

    Binge reading

I can’t seem to read these days. In my youth every spare moment was spent reading. I’m too easily sidetracked by internet stuff, box sets, catchup tv, podcasts. The only time I seem to read is when we have a power cut and part of me wants the power to stay off. I’m still trying to finish reading...

    What are you watching

Sometimes something is so bad you have to stick with it to see if it gets better. Or to justify having invested so much time spent watching it. It paid off with Vikings ( not that it was a bad series; far from it…I just found it a bit style over substance and took itself too seriously) in that I...

    What are you watching

Decided to watch series two, although I struggled to remember what happened in season one. Just realised that Jurgeon is Charlie Cooper. Keep thinking that Daisy May Cooper has had lip filler since series one and can’t understand why so many women are having lip filler. Why would anyone have a...

Why does it feel like Wednesday when it's only Tuesday?

Don’t they grow watercress in chalk streams?

    The 2025 Grand National

With it being my favourite race I always studied the National very carefully and, over the years did very well, winner wise, because it often needed a bit of thinking outside of the box. I backed Mon Mome when the weights came out, only to not back him again when he went out to 100/1. My few...

    What are you watching

I often have Digging for Britain on a loop at night; it’s such easy watching. There was an interesting item about the gypsies that lived in the New Forest the other night. And Johnny Flynn ( swoon) does the music. I don’t like Alice’s pink hair; I wish she’d revert back to being blonde. I think...

    What are you watching

I saw the first series, which I had to watch twice because I couldn’t work out what was happening ( which often happens with me as I don’t concentrate on what I’m watching. I will watch it but going to watch Everyone Else Burns first which is a channel 4 black comedy, and they often go...

    What are you watching

I like to live dangerously. Could get myself in no end of trouble with just about everything about that film! ( must point out there is another film with the same name that was released at the same time plus another one that was released in 2009…)

    Can I just say...

Bet I’ve got it on VHS somewhere but it would mean going through a lot of boxes full of recordings!
