    The 2025 Grand National

Grand National weights day used to be the highlight of my year, second only to the race itself. Can’t believe I’m so lacking in knowledge of many of the horses running and have no idea of which ones to have a bet on; I always put my first bets on on weights day. I think the race has just changed...

    What are you watching

I’ve been rather taken with Ben Rufus Greens character ( he was so sweet and funny) in The Cockfields and have found out that he has is on utube in something called The Washing Up Club. I’m just watching an episode in which they have a power cut and Ray’s got a LED head light like mine. I’m...

    What are you watching

I’ve finished Amandaland and am now watching a series called The Cockfields on BBC catchup which I missed first time round. Gentle humour similar to The Detectorists but, unlike that I think the humour would only appeal to old people like me. A nice folky soundtrack, too. Beth Orton I think.

Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

I tend to follow It’s Ginos progeny as I met his breeder in a pub in Newmarket years ago when we were watching the football in a pub. They seem to be extremely talented but either very unlucky or a bit fragile. I’m always rooting for them though because she and her husband were so lovely.

    Some excellent work…

Thankfully we’re now in a splinter group that had been thrown out of the original group for another reason! I felt sorry for my dog; I don’t mind being a billynomates ( story of my life) but it didn’t seem fair on her. What I don’t understand about people that casually throw around racist...

Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

Didn’t Nicky lose a horse a few years ago that had had a small piece of birch work it’s way into the coffin bone?

    Some excellent work…

I still haven’t got over the shock of someone in my dog walking group describing a paramedic that saved his life as a ‘darkie’. I didn’t say anything at the time but other things that he did got to me over time (eg his revenance for Enoch Powell )and eventually I had an online spat with him. It...

Bet it wasn’t as good as Uncle Boonmee who can recall his past lives. Or The Headless Woman….

    What are you watching

I don’t mind films that are hard to watch ( although I did give up on The Deer Hunter the other night; I felt that, as I’d never seen it I needed to watch it as part of my cinematic education, but I gave up and watched Amandaland instead) but some hard to watch films are boring. I didn’t like...

    What are you watching

I think I saw it at the cinema but have never had any desire to watch it again. Apart from The Last of the Mohicans, which I can watch over and over again, I don’t really like Daniel Day Lewis films. On the subject of films that need to be finished I must attempt to watch Peterloo again. There’s...

    What are you watching

Got a good write up on Must Watch. Says it doesn’t turn out to be what you think it’s going to be. I don’t have Disney, though.

    Guitarists

Another fan here. Trouble is, I’m still so cut up about Tom dying that I don’t really listen to their music these days. Thankfully my SIL went to see them just before he died ( but he wouldn’t take me with him…) actually, I’ve just watched the video for Refugee which I must have watched hundreds...

Places I wouldn't be seen dead at....

I have been known to enter some Wetherspoon establishments. So if ever you see a Bollox to Brexit sticker in one that’ll be me..(maybe you could assuage the guilt by doing the same; I’ve got plenty of spare ones if you need one…)

    Newbury Hurdle entries.

Having missed backing Seahouses at 33/1 I thankfully had a last minute bet on Joyeuse ( 5/1 not being my sort of price). Because Bamburgh Castle is allegedly Sir Lancelots mythical castle Joyous ( or sometimes Joyeuse) Garde. It would have added insult to injury if I didn’t back her. Relieved to...

I think I’ve got City to City in the loft. Who’s the guy who sung on Dark Side of the Moon because Roger Waters couldn’t reach the right notes, but never got paid for it?

Jeff Back was amazing in The Yardbirds. But I haven’t liked anything he’s done since. Not sure if it’s a bloke/girl thing, but I’ve never liked Jimi Hendrix’s style of playing. I bought a Jeff Beck solo album that was recommended to me and I think I only played it once. There’s a documentary I...
