The 2025 Paddy Power Gold Cup (Handicap Chase)

If I thought they were precious nobody would ever see them. They wouldn't exist if it weren't for all the info available in the form book: times, comments, analyses, new ORs, etc, etc, and, to be honest, I'd probably still be subscribing to Timeform's sectional data which I found very helpful...

The 2025 Paddy Power Gold Cup (Handicap Chase)

Does it matter whether they read it? I don't mind admitting to Pawras that I don't read it but I fully respect the work and time that goes into producing the data and I respect his/her ability to interpret the data in golden retriever language for tech luddites like me. (No condescension or...

The 2025 Paddy Power Gold Cup (Handicap Chase)

I could never have told you oddschecker had a stats section but I'm not a stats man anyway unless they're 38-22-34 and supplied by a beautiful deaf-mute nymphomaniac who owns a bar. I don't have a problem with people posting links or info from various sites. I'm free to exercise my option to...

The 2025 Paddy Power Gold Cup (Handicap Chase)

Without studying at all, I've taken 50/1 Issar D'Airy (I believe it's a full brother to Co-op D'Airy). It's top on RPRs so must be at least reasonably handicapped. It's currently looking like being 4lbs out of the handicap but the yard has used Freddie Mitchell's 5lbs claim to good effect this...

Tom Segal made a very similar [in general] argument in last week's Weekender.

The 2025 Paddy Power Gold Cup (Handicap Chase)

They seem to fancy The Jukebox Man for the King George so he'd be another potential G1 horse in the race but he seems friendless so probably doubts about getting there this weekend. We'll maybe know a wee bit later on this afternoon why the 5-day decs come out.

    The Will Win Thread

This is something I've said on here several times down the years, usually in response to people whingeing about immediate post-race interviews. I reckon this is where winning jockeys, trainers and owners let their guard slip and actually tell the truth (and give lie to stuff said in the media...

Ones that have had a glaringly obvious "strange" ride...

Soul Icon in the Badger Beer. Settled in the second half of the field off an even pace and curiously allowed to drift back to the rear before being asked for an effort when the race was over. The jockey falling off was probably a blessing for both. The horse ended up not having a hard race...

The 2025 Grand Sefton Handicap Chase

Great shout, Euro. I'm not going to claim it cost MG the race but wtf was the rider thinking at the Canal Turn? Everybody knows to go wide on the approach and cut the corner. He seemed not to realise it was a corner and virtually went straight into it, ending up going ridiculously wide and then...

    The Will Win Thread

For me it should raise questions within the racing media, especially the TV people. They should have people analysing what interviewees are saying over the course of a season or more and the extent to which what they're saying proves to be true. I'd say 90% of what Nicholls says before a race...

    The Will Win Thread

I'm not sure it's a case of what his judgment is. I'm more inclined to think he's very reluctant to tell the truth before a race.

I got the impression this morning that Nicholls was keener on his other one but he's well up to putting punters away.

Backing Venetia Williams' Chasers In November with Andrew Mount

Having backed LD for those wins (and the needless defeat before them - was it by GDC? - can't be arsed checking) I would say it was blindingly obvious what he was doing with the horse and it was expert (and pretty ruthless) campaigning but the Hendos and Williamses and half the training...

The 2025 Grand Sefton Handicap Chase

I'll almost certainly watch this race but I'm wondering why White Rhino has been down as a non-runner in the RP cards since Thursday evening but was still showing at 5/1 fav on oddschecker late last night, still isn't listed as a non-runner on the RP non-runners page and is showing at 11/2 in...

Backing Venetia Williams' Chasers In November with Andrew Mount

I forgot I'd cancelled my RTV subscription and didn't realise it was on ITV so didn't see the race but I don't think for a moment that the Skeltons were cheating. When it won the time before last the form book comment said it had the potential to be a 140+ horse (from a mark in the low 120s)...
