Backing Venetia Williams' Chasers In November with Andrew Mount

Martator out to 10s, surprisingly enough considering it went blue ahead of Saturday's race. I suppose if you got the BOG at the shorter prices you won't mind too much.

The 2025 Coral Gold Cup (Handicap Chase)

I've taken 16/1 Katate Dori. Can't see it going off (assuming it runs) at any more than 7/1.

Point Blank: AK Bets Was Always a Prick

I've never heard of AK Bets. I've no idea who AK might be but it sounds like he deserves every or any misfortune coming his way. I would have to admit to never tipping a betting shop employee in my life. Then again, at the time I was using betting shops £2w would have been a big bet for me. I...

2025 Melbourne Cup - Race Prediction, Tips, Picks, & Expert Thoughts on Which Horse Will Win On The Day

Just watched the race. (I did happen to wake up to go for the obligatory pee at 3.55am but decided if I watched the race I wouldn't get back to sleep.) Anyroads... I'm so glad I kept stakes to sweetie money on Abathascan. What a pathetic ride it got. Started off well just inside the eventual...

    The 2025 Longshot Thread

Melbourne Cup - Athabascan 80/1 No study involved, just hoping lady luck lightning can strike twice. Last year I ordered the field by RPRs and noted Knight's Choice well up the figures and at a triple-figure price so I chucked some each-way beer money at it. Athabascan is actually top on RPRs...

Backing Venetia Williams' Chasers In November with Andrew Mount

Which is why I never read his stuff. My default assumption is that anyone who works for a bookmaker and puts up anything under their banner is out to put us away somewhere down the line.

    Charlie Hall

That Charlie Hall did look a pretty well-run race. I didn't have a bet in it. I did toy with the idea of backing Djelo but shat it because I rate it as about as consistent as school dinners custard. Pleased for you, Outsider

Nothing new but I just need to say it

Yes, this reminds me of a verbal spat I had with a very senior person at one of the places I worked. I had enough confidence in my own management skills to trust my staff to do certain things a certain way that suited their personalities but the people at the top questioned it and said something...

Nothing new but I just need to say it

Thanks, archie. I ask because my view is that as you work up through the ratings the horses tend to become relatively better handicapped because the handicappers undervalue the true worth of the form. By that, I mean that the winner of a race like the Wokingham or Golden Mile can go up just...

Nothing new but I just need to say it

Two points, if I may, archie: 1. Why do you say 0-105s are more competitive than 0-145s? In this context, how do you define 'competitive'? 2. I as good as packed in punting on the Flat in the late summer on account of the big handicaps, in particular, being mopped up week in week out by horses...

    BUMPERS

Thanks, both. Appreciated. The Skelton horse last week had a bumper rating miles higher than anything else, something that piqued my interest at the time. I think the runner-up made them show their hand more than they expected to have to.

    BUMPERS

I'm not particularly interested in bumpers per se but I asked a question a while back that nobody seemed able (or willing to share) an answer so I'll ask again. Does anyone have a calculation relating to bumper RPRs or Timeform ratings and how they 'translate' to hurdles ratings? For example...

    The 2025 Breeders' Cup

Yes, we've been trying to plan a return trip to the States to catch up ageing family before it's too late but we're not prepared to do so while Netanyahu's buddy Orangeyahoo is in charge.

    The 2026 2,000 Guineas

Only gave it a cursory glance as I was waiting on phone call (about being interviewed for the next Celtic manager's job) but at least I was right. It was Gewon or something like that.

    The 2026 2,000 Guineas

I haven't been following this thread because I haven't really looked at the Flat form for some time. However, I did see the race won by the Balding horse (Gewon or something like that - was it the Dewhurst) and subsequently checked where it sat on the Timeform top 2yos list. It was -...

    TV coverage

I honestly wouldn't know - I don't watch the midweek stuff. But I suspect you've seen enough of him for your opinion to hold weight.

    TV coverage

I don't watch midweek racing so wouldn't know if he was accurate or not but the paddock observations wouldn't have precluded the race outcomes. The first might just have been much better than the rest, the second might not have been off. Even jinnyj got it wrong once, I think ;)

That's been a gripe of mine since Channel 4 took over.

Probably the only fit horse in the race.
