    Jockey News

Happened to catch the RP site item about Maureen Haggas's strong comments regarding the ride Lake Forest got last week down under. I watched the replay and totally understand her anger. Then again, we see rides like it every day in this country and the stewards do nothing. It's hard to get...

I found on the few times I was at the track that I preferred seeing it on the screen because I could actually see what was happening. I think when money is involved in the outcome of a race, seeing it unfold in an optimum way is more important than witnessing the rippling muscles of the horse's...

What I know about Irish politics doesn't go beyond stories passed down to my dear departed mother by her father whose family was burned out of their house by the Black & Tans so my opinions are pretty black & white: UK Army - Bad, anyone prepared to resist them - Good. But the guy's case for...

What are you backing Today? Part 2

Just watched it again. I don't see the head going up and it did move ahead briefly. It had never run beyond 3m before and never won beyond 2m7f. Today was 3m1f with several fences taken out which tends to place more emphasis on stamina. I reckon today's race would have felt more like a 3m3f...

What are you backing Today? Part 2

I thought it did go by the other one but just ran out of steam. Kennedy appeared to be nursing it from the home turn so maybe he had doubts about its stamina. I'll have another watch.

A few weeks ago the Weekender had one of their occasional politics pages. On that occasion, the guy made a decent case for backing Catherine Connolly to be the next president of Ireland at 6/1 so I followed the advice. I've just seen on the News that her opponent has conceded so that's another...

Still, I had a wee ew treble with Electric Mason and Backmersackme so should still have a wee bit of sweetie money for the Old Roan.

What are you backing Today? Part 2

I looked right for most of the final half-mile there but it looked like it didn't get home. I can't say it would have won if they hadn't taken the fences out because it smashed a few of them on the way round. Not a natural jumper.

What are you backing Today? Part 2

For the life of me I can't understand why Pied Piper is 7/1 here. I'd have it a short favourite.

What are you backing Today? Part 2

Well done TCB backers (y) I only had sweetie money on Backmersackme but I reckon it would have won if it could jump. He just seemed to lack smoothness at the fences and came out of nearly every one half-a-length to a length behind where those around him were going into the fences. Sea Music was...

Churnover? More than 600k people turn 18 every year in the UK so there's the ongoing feed-in to TV viewing and ITV racing love banging on about big crowds at the tracks. And imo there are ever-increasing numbers of fannies wanting to be seen on TV at these meetings with ITV obliging by putting...

    The Will Win Thread

The thing is, they're just as likely to run it down the park until the real target, whatever that might be. Most of the Fehily club 'jobs' tend to attract money, which would support the idea of its not being off today but, as I say, they had one yesterday that went from 11/4jf at the final dec...

Yes, a belter, but way beyond my vocal range!

I stuck some sweetie money on it at 22/1 and got the BOG so the place money will cover another such bet. Skelton either got it badly wrong or fvcked it up. If it genuinely wasn't off he had no need to be so serious on it from the home turn.

They're trying to turn TV viewers into racegoers so 'sell the experience' to them. The racing is purely secondary to the ITV agenda but at least we get to see lots of racing on TV because of it.

Don't be too despondent, Slim. I looked at yesterday's card, marked off the Skelton horse when it was 11/4, watched it go out to 14/1 and get home first in a photo without a penny on it. It happens as often as shit happens.

What are you backing Today? Part 2

My cursory glance has me looking at these for the sake of a watching interest: 2.20: 1 Backmersackme; 2 Sea Music; 3 Fascile Mode 2.55: 1 Chart Topper; 2 Electric Mason 4.05: Pied Piper

I think this might be a Drifters song I'm involved in the backing vocals with:

    Songs you'd forgot about.

I'm as good a strummer as anybody on the air guitar but that is my limit. Mrs O is no fan of karaoke and only ever attends when it's karaoke evening in the hotel lounge when we're on holiday and she has had enough g&ts to not notice that I'm up singing. Orchidette is even shyer than me but...

I just think the earlier they start with the poppies the more they're diluting the importance of Remembrance Day and all they do is end up guilting all the sheep into following suit.
