The remake is out this week of The Secrets In Their Eyes but not on at my local Cineworld. Reviews are so-so, not as good as the original but then most remakes aren't. I've got the original on DVD and it's brilliant and well worth a watch.

Just mentioned the 4 timer that was available, bearing in mind Leo was about 1-25 odds on and I think Brie Larson was long odds on too, maybe 1-7 or something. Surprised Spotlight won best film (although it deserved it) but there is often a political slant with the winner, look at 12 years a...

Had a feeling Mark Rylance would win best supporting actor over Stallone. Bet365 were offering 4/5 on a 4 timer of Di Caprio, Larson, Stallone and Vikander or 9-2 on Di Caprio, Larson, Rylance and Vikander. I saw it last night and I was tempted to have a bet on it as 3 of them were nailed on, it...

Went to see 2 films yesterday. Grimsby was crass, vulgar and quite funny in parts. It's not going to win any awards and the storyline is as thin as Donald Trumps candy floss hair. Not for the easily offended or easily grossed out. The scene making all the fuss is Nobby and his brother hiding...

I might have mentioned it before but Cineworld do an Unlimited pass for the cinema. It's £16.90 a month but it's Unlimited films at any time. It also includes special screenings only available to Unlimited card holders and for the first year you get 10% off food and drink. After 12 months it...

I'm surprised Stallone is odds on for best supporting actor at the Oscars. The guy from Bridge Of Spies won the Bafta and I'd personally have given it to Tom Hardy for The Revenant. Not sure if kids are allowed for this award but the child actor in Room was fantastic and should be rewarded in...

Yes, definitely. I think the understated part probably led to people saying it was a straight to DVD type film but it wasn't all gloss and glitz and a film with that type of subject matter shouldn't be. It only stayed on at my local cinema for about a week so glad I caught it.

    Racing Post - Utter Shitbox

Have the RP still got a hard on for Pendleton? Predicted headlines for next week include Pendleton feeds horse sugar lump, Pendleton saddles up horse and Pendleton wears jodhpurs.

I went to see The Revenant on Monday evening, I thought it was bleak but also beautiful in parts, some of the photography in the film was outstanding. I thought the ending was a tad disappointing. Di Caprio was good but I also thought Tom Hardy was a great supporting actor. Although it's a...

I have a few colleagues that can't watch any films that contain any sort of animal abuse. I recommended Tyrannosaur to a few as it's a wonderful film but there are 2 specific scenes where a dog is hurt and they had to switch off without seeing the rest of the film.

You'll go through a series of emotions watching Spotlight but that for me shows how effective it is as a film. I was angry, upset, disgusted and frustrated throughout the film but the fact this got exposed and possibly saved a lot of other children from abuse has to be celebrated. I was...

    Ryanair Chase 2016

Are you convinced VV will get 20f? Only raced once over that trip (2nd to Clarcam). I have always felt VV is short of top class but that is based mainly on 2m form. 20f could be the making of him so you might have a point if he stays the trip.

Saw Spotlight on Friday and thought it was brilliant. It gathered pace well and it was hard to see if some ends that weren't tied up were done so on purpose. Ruffalo was good and his speech about nailing the scumbags was genuinely moving but I didn't think there was one standout performance...

    Ryanair Chase 2016

Al Ferof and Ma Filleule would be the interest for me in this race, both usually jump well and have form around Cheltenham. Ma Filleule was given 2 hurdles runs to start her campaign, flopped at Ascot but then won over 20f at Donny and I think she'll be one of those staying on up the hill as...

I've been to see a few films recently: Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 - Only just got into these and watched all the first 3 again on DVD before going to the cinema to see this one. I thought the film was quite well paced and had lots more action than the politics of Mockingjay Part 1 but the...

I saw The Martain last week, enjoyed it, although quite slow in parts and I thought Matt Damon was very good. I saw Sicario last night, one of the best films of the year without doubt. Emily Blunt is excellent and it's well worth a watch. The trailer for Black Mass (Jonny Depp) looks interesting.
