I've no idea about Ireland, sounds like they started social distancing and a lockdown process on the 11th. I won't just go on your word though, but they aren't really a comparable case.

As I've said numerous times now, the social distancing and lockdown process started on the 16th March and finished on 23rd March.

You're mixing up weeks here. 16th March was when we started the social distancing and lockdown process. Major sporting events had stopped before then.

We still have the elderly walking the streets, have you looked outside? I can't recall many football matches after 16th March either, everyone kicks off about the Liverpool v Atletico one that was the week before, as was Cheltenham...

It's all apples v oranges as every country has taken different measures. No other country as far as I know did a staged lockdown like we did, over the week of 16th-23rd March, they went from normal life to lockdown. Germany still haven't entered lockdown. So yes, there is a good reason for it...

Most likely, we then did stricter measures on the 23rd. Although people in Germany can still do the above now I believe.

Fairly, think it neglects to mention that we actually started hygiene advice, social distancing and lockdown measures earlier than any other European country that has been affected. Something that people keep missing, to be fair to them. Good article showing the changing science and decisions...

I'm not sure if I need to point out the differences between tiny island nations such as New Zealand and Iceland and the UK, USA or any mainland European country, but yep they seem to have done well with the huge advantages that they have. Taiwan have used the SARS experience and the harsh...

It's still the quickest way out of this in the medium to longer term and is a tried and tested strategy that we use consistently for other viruses. The difficulty is managing the pace of spread, which we are doing now to good effect so far. I should add that the big risk is that we have no idea...

Not particularly, potentially going slightly too early with the "full lockdown", but they will have the figures that others don't see to justify doing it so soon after they had started social distancing measures. I think they could have (and potentially still should) make a bigger deal about...

A denier of what? For what it's worth I've seen plenty of doctors and nurses (and a couple that I know personally) saying that they have plenty of spare capacity and they are confident they have the resources to cope with this in the long term. I treat that with caution too.
