    The Derby

The view of US Army Ranger depends what context you look at him through. He's only run the twice, quickly shown smart form to make into a Group winner and battled when he had to yesterday, he stuck his head down, ran straight and kept going all the way to the line. Obviously he's a really...

    Newmarket supporting card

That's a very good shout with Arabian Queen Gus. Price just looks wrong on so many levels. 12f wrong for her after the Juddmonte, possible she hasn't got full credit for that, but even if it flatters her, the balance of her form is better than the likes of Crystal Zveda and the Fabre horse...

Indeed. He'll be 5/2 after Chester

Not sure what the return of the tongue strap is about, or whether the ground will definitely be fast enough. But I'd rather back a loser than miss him at 3/1 off this mark!

    Scottish National

Milborough looks a big price at 40s with up to 5 places. Only 3 lb higher than for his win in the Eider, and 8 lb lower than when running in the race last year under less suitable conditions. Very much back to form last time, first 3 pulling clear and only 2 lb higher with a return to longer...

    Irish Flat Season 2016

Strange one this. Must have properly caught them by surprise. Lack of any decent entries and the fact he went off at 14s suggests he's not been showing at home what he did on track. Was quite impressed with the 2 from the Ballysax

    Craven Meeting

I want him to run in a handicap off 86, if only to highlight how someone hasn't done their job properly. He'll be about 4/6 when he does run off that mark. How many times did Ennaadd need to boost that form before it got looked at again? Quite a few valuable handicaps at 1m before the Britannia...

Apologies folks - didn't read this thread from the beginning when I posted the above flippant remarks.

Someone said betting with these sorts of firms is the equivalent of replying to one of those Nigerian banking scam emails. Made me laugh anyway.

    Irish Flat Season 2016

EC1 Any concerns about the deterioration of the ground this year between the listed race and the maiden. Was good in 2012, so likely that the conditions were roughly on a par. Heavy ground, another hour of rain in between the 2 races - none of it points to producing conditions that were likely...

You're right Gus. But he was just as insistent that Golden Horn was a 10f horse

    Irish Flat Season 2016

Wajeez was off the scale impressive, visually and sectionally. I rated him 109p last year which is very similar to what Golden Horn was. Sounds like we have similar calculators!

Various factors go into it. Would disagree a little with the point about siblings, three previous foals were rated 100+ by Timeform which while not rare, isn't common either. They were by sires who don't have as good a record as Galileo and dam's rating also a factor. 15 or so factors influence...

    Irish Flat Season 2016

Don't know anything Slim. He came to my eye when I was cross-refencing Timeform 2-y-o predicted ratings with those that ran last year. He was obviously unraced but his predicted 2-y-o rating of 119 was the highest of the lot. I checked his pedigree and thought he was a dark horse for the Derby...

    Irish Flat Season 2016

US Army Ranger been nibbled at in Derby betting ahead of an entry in the 10f Curragh maiden on Sunday won previously by Ruler of The World. Impeccably bred, being by Galileo and out of Moonstone. Interesting to see where he pitches up - one of 3 unraced O'Brien horses entered in the Dante this...
