I think the Sungate debacle could be worse than any of those. Regarding Point 5 - regardless of how Horse Racing Ireland market it, the Irish Champion, Matron, Irish St Leger and National Stakes have been and will continue to be run in the first 2 weeks of September so any idea that anyone had...

So much for strict liability. Absolute bollocks. "In the absence of positive samples". Jesus wept.

    The King George

The cognitive dissonance that that race produces for so many :D One of the great performances.

    Can mods read PMs?

Why else do you think anyone would want to be a mod on here?

Seemed like those blue and green colours could be seen in just about every jumps race back then. Sad news. Who was his best? Well Chief?

The Coral Eclipse Sandown Sat July 6

Didn't back anything and don't normally go for jockey blame, but thought Buick had a bit of a shocker on The Fugue; getting stuck on the outside and having a bumping match with Pastorius before giving up entirely when her chance was gone. She's a really frustrating horse although the Nassau...

    Active Users List today

Its not a person; they're all accounts set up by spambots. They can register, which is why they show up in the Active Users, but they can't post until they've been manually cleared (otherwise the place would have been full of knock-off Gucci handbags).

    Kingman

I'm assuming they used some kind of standardisation / par rating adjusted for beaten distances to come up with the RPR. Put it this way: if every race on a card is slowly run, how does Topspeed rate the races? They have no way of knowing how slow each race is since they don't use sectionals. So...

    Kingman

But Topspeed doesn't use sectionals, does it? The method that Topspeed uses basically needs one or more easily-rated (in RPR terms, i.e. collateral form) races like a handicap to be truly run so that they can peg the race time as roughly equal to the RPR and then hang less-easily rated races...

    Kingman

So they've keyed the whole card off Kingman's Topspeed (96) matching his RPR (95). Everything else on the card is at least a stone slow. Tenuous to say the least! Besides Kingman, Timeform have Fig Roll (1st race) and Alta Lilea (6th race) running to a time in line with their ratings.

    Weights, distances and ratings

Also, Simon Rowlands (of Timeform) wrote a series of articles on time analysis and race standardisation that are well worth a read: Time: http://betting.betfair.com/horse-racing/betting-strategy/betting-strategy-simon-rowlands-on-time-analysis-part-o-240309.html...

The BHA have a Guide to Handicapping which explains in basic terms how the Official Ratings are calculated and adjusted: http://www.britishhorseracing.com/inside_horseracing/about/whatwedo/HandicappingDetailedGuide2.doc Their handicapping page is worth a look...

As I understand it, they're still at Moulton and under the license of Suroor but Zarooni's former assistant Charlie Appleby is applying for a license to take over at Moulton.

On This Day In (Racing) History

When they switched the Derby from Wednesday to Saturday they made it the first Saturday after the first Wednesday in June. A few years back they changed it to simply the first Saturday in June. Obviously some years those dates are the same. As 1st June was a Thursday in 2000, the Derby ended up...
