2025 Melbourne Cup - Race Prediction, Tips, Picks, & Expert Thoughts on Which Horse Will Win On The Day

WPM has come a long way since Holy Orders did him no favours the first year he had a runner there.

2025 Melbourne Cup - Race Prediction, Tips, Picks, & Expert Thoughts on Which Horse Will Win On The Day

Having been to Breeders Cup 1992 with racing buddies we planned to attend Melbourne Cup in 1993. We did the Arc instead thus missing Vintage Crop's success. I got there in 1998 and must say it is a flat race event to rival Cheltenham Festival. The Monday parade through the city, the racecards...

2025 Melbourne Cup - Race Prediction, Tips, Picks, & Expert Thoughts on Which Horse Will Win On The Day

Bill Mott has a runner with Johnnyv on board; victory would be some achievement for USA; Trump might even waive tariffs should they succeed.

Norton bit also called a Citation Bit, named after American Triple Crown winner 1948. It is for hard pulling horses to help them settle. Lugging bit is help prevent horses hanging off a straight line. Cross nose bands are to help settle hard pullers. (Grackle was 1931 Grand National winner so...

Great news Jinny. Pity I didn't know you were on the market as we ( Whitegrass Synd) have a Mahler half sister to Cracking Rhapsody to go p2p route with a view to harrowing what Straight Home ploughed; same Townend connections for phase 1 of the adventure. Form got a wee boost at Del Mar last...

    The 2025 Breeders' Cup

We had a visit to Closutton Irish Oaks Day 2023. I swear no horse ran up the Curragh as fast as Wpm's worked that morning. Ebor winner that couldn't go to Oz owing to a screw. Fast ground up his alley, was hard, hard fit and ridden for luck. Le Paillon won a Arc in 1947 after placing in...

    The 2025 Breeders' Cup

Of all the O'Brien family Donacha is made of different stuff. He has a confidence, movie star looks and can the best out of a horse. His win on Apache Gold for us 10 years ago at Cork was a thing of beauty. Like Maureen , this filly jumped off the page at me with Oisin riding. No bet ,however .

Another second; how bad . At least Gary O'Brien and Jane Mangan gave him the thumbs up after the race for consistency; a 4.5 k purchase to run up a 205k purchase is no bad thing. Frustrating , yes.

Back again to Down Royal Friday for another Bumper 4.20 with Hopeful Hero. Just the five runners , a duo of Gordon p2p winners, one from A J Martin and one from Crawford's academy. Ground looks ideal once the rain stays away . Lots of top amateurs rang up for the ride but Tom remains loyal to...

    TV coverage

The new series of Champions: Full Gallop has missed/ignored quite possibly the best performance from last season; Sir Gino's win at Kempton Dec 26 from episode 2. Given the brouhaha about Constitution Hill , his prep and "that gallop " , to give his galloping companion no mention absolutely...

    The Will Win Thread

Too busy to have a bet; I saw the drift and thought it should make up for the halving of Three Card Brag's price which I could live with given Slim had tipped the drifter. If people still had faith Slim's would have halved in price and mine doubled.

Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

Unlucky this year methinks. One good result this year and he was made. Possibly the best example of a top class horse needing a top class jockey in recent times.
