    Irish Derby 2025

One thing I liked about the Irish Derby was the pre race parade. Every Group 1 race should have one if only to test a horse's temperament for the big occasion. Breeding horses of a nervous disposition serves neither breed nor man. Lambourn has to win a 10f Group 1 to stand as a flat sire alas...

    2025 In Memoriam (Racing People)

D Wayne Lukas . As posted during the week, he has faced the starter for the last time. He brought racing into the MTV age ; had the name, the polish , the brawn and the drawl . He didn't fade away or go away but kept showing up and could never be discounted. His work ethic was phenomenal, he...

Now his confidence is up he could run up a sequence.

    Irish Derby 2025

Aiden said post race that Lambourn is a horse not subject to the "flight or fight "response that most racehorses usually exhibit. He is like his sire Australia in that regard. He listens to his rider and does enough to win, in other words. If not encouraged, he won't respond. (This may explain...

    2025 In Memoriam (Racing People)

That was him Slim. One day at Goodwood Cash was riding a maiden juvenile filly in a Listed race for him. A 16/1 outsider, Barry forcibly told Cash , "no excuses, just win!" They did.

    2025 In Memoriam (Racing People)

His autobiography was most amusing. Before Frankincense he, along with other travelling head lads worked out the winners of the autumn handicaps with big ante post betting markets. Had he done the treble/yankee to a half decent bet he could have been training years earlier. Always a punter...

Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

Thousand Stars (21). One hell of a horse . Came to owner /trainer Lar Byrne as a 3 year old after twenty flat runs in France, once running against Binocular and Ashkazar, another day runner up to Literato. Twelve runs and one win later Lar wanted to dispose of him. Jockey Tim Doyle recommended...

    Jockey News

I heard that her injuries were greatly exaggerated, that she was back at work a few days after. Time will tell, and hopefully truth will out. No doubt he is the most talented rider around but the "self destruct " gene is all too obvious. Flat jockeys should not behave like jump jockeys of old. I...

    Irish Derby 2025

Ten runners declared, three from UK. I am a little surprised to see Green Impact among the lot but he may as well take his chance, having little hope against the standard of milers around. Aiden has just the five so his stronghold may be broken this year.

    Trainer news

D Wayne Lukas has announced he has ceased training according to Daily Racing Form. The 89 year old is hospitalised , in poor health and has resisted a vigorous treatment schedule to be able to spend time with his family, according to the report.

    Hats off to HRI

I see HRI have introduced a 25k 2m4f Handicap Hurdle at Killarney for horses that have won /been placed in 110 handicap hurdles since after Punchestown Festival. Hurdle is top weight 120 rated to allow for penalties since any win. A lovely pot for summer hurdlers /I applaud them.

    Ascot Take Outs Day 5

The problem with Royal Ascot is they have no fresh ground too large field size and five days racing. Look at the off track and see how burned up it was compared to the racetrack. Limiting field size to twenty on the straight track ; have a win and you're in strategy a la Cheltenham Festival and...

    The Will Win Thread

Ombudsman. Think Mtoto and that is the type of horse Ombudsman is. He just needed to grow up and hear his hooves rattle. Reynier was doubly p555sed with the ride Facteur Cheval got as Ascot. He is capable of better but needs ground less lively. Calandagan will get it right one day , the long...

    2025 In Memoriam (Racing People)

Just saw that Sam James rode a winner today. His 33rd this season, at a 17% strike rate and a profit of nearly £78 to a £1 stake. Just saying.

The Fist Of Fury Royal Ascot Cup 2025

I flattered briefly before finding the going, draw, watering and not properly reading the form came against me. (Nothing new there so.) Still enjoyed the week and the good humour of all involved. Many thanks for the fun . Congrats to all who performed so well. Reading Phil Bull's biography he...

    2025 In Memoriam (Racing People)

I was at Leopardstown the evening Madhmoon won his maiden. There was a buzz that evening that Kevin had one to retire on. Irish Derby Day I was with a gent that Christy Grassick came over to say hello to. His only Epsom regret was that Kevin was second, reckoning a Prendergast win would give...

The 2025 Royal Ascot Friday Thread

From what I remember they are very decent with ticket allocations to owners. I took my late sister for her 50th birthday the day Eddie Harty ran Baron Del in 2009. He asked me if I was okay for tickets etc a few days before the race. Like a plank I said that I was....

    The 2025 Wokingham (Handicap) Stakes

Get It is some horse to win the top sprints he has won. My Racehorse were emailing me among a cast of thousands every time he ran in 2023 to sell a share or two. Look at what I have missed in the meantime. Delighted for Seamie also, a forgotten hero who rarely does the wrong thing.
