The 2025 Royal Ascot Tuesday Thread

Oisin riding for Natalia Lupini in the final race has tickled my fancy I must say. Rarely does such a high profile jockey ride for such a yard. Tony Martin on fire this past few days so Alphonse cannot be left out either in Ascot Stakes.

Luck was most definitely with us tonight , thankfully. Mare was full of herself after the race apparently so more to come with a little more luck. Alas I could not get there myself but Baldeagle stood in for me, putting his shoulder to the wheel when needed. Galway now beckons hopefully.

Straight Home tries again Monday Kilbeggan 6.48. A 30k hurdle 3m1f restricted to jockeys who did not ride 15 winners last season, Kieran O'Callaghan gets his chance to claim a few pounds off. Once she has time to get over her flat spot she should do us proud again.

    The 2025 Derby

As the saying goes, you don't get a second chance to make a good first impression. A simple thing, The Irish Derby museum open in Curragh Court house Irish Derby week is closed on Derby Day for the past few years, the one day people are likely to want to view it.

    In Memoriam (racing people)

An amazing man and trainer . Prominent King was sent there as a six year old after his owner had a difference of opinion with his Irish trainer , Kevin Prendergast. His novice chase season ended in defeat in RSA chase but he won Long Walk hurdle next start. Off for a season, (he was unsound and...

    Jockey News

Delighted for Colin, one down to earth nice guy . Such a pity Connor King was so tall as he out rode Colin for 2 Apprentice titles when young and light. Team Juddmonte and Colin are the ideal fit; there are few owners that have their manners, maybe the Double Green Munir/Suede combo are comparable.

Ground was properly watered at Punchestown to an extent that put Epsom generosity to shame apparently. Didn't settle as well as expected "early doors" ( what a lousy expression) and got tired when the heat came on. All going well with further conditioning there is a 4 yo bumper in Tipperary June...

    Your first Derby memories

Grundy was the first winner I backed, 5p win at 5/1. Hooked ever since, I finally got to Epsom in 1995 for first Saturday Derby . 1997 I went to see a Sadler's Wells colt bring off the 2000/Derby double in memory of my dad who died 2000 Gns weekend. That didn't happen. Back in 1999, 2004, 2007...

    The 2025 Derby

Mating Australia with American speed has produced a daring result. I believe Australia was available for 10k this year, a bargain surely. A major change in going can give unsatisfactory results, Godolphin did right by staying at home.

Yellow rain warning for south east with risk of flooding and power outages in places. To think Ever Ready used sponsor the race. Hope all goes well for all concerned.

    Coronation Cup

Well he was gelded for a reason. Then again, Cirrus des Aigles finished second seven times in his first ten starts , took 38 races to win his first Group1 and ended up winning seven. Frustrating would be a better description Slim.

Hopeful Hero makes his debut for us Saturday , Punchestown 5.20. By Raven's Pass ex Dalakhani mare he was just too big for the flat, so Tom Hogan collected him at Goffs April 2024 for a modest amount. Tom is the optimist's optimist so has been talking this fellow up big for months now. Saturday...

Looks like we could have 2 French supplementary entries; Midak for Aga Khan team and New Ground for Juddmonte , trained by Henri-Francois Devin, nephew of Missunited's owner , Vanessa . A little local interest so.

    French Derby 2025.

Indeed Coach. I wonder if they might try make a Wootton Bassett dirt horse out of him. He traces to Serena's Song and the holy grail for Coolmore is a dual purpose/ hybrid surface stallion.
