Cheltenham Festival Record: The Good, The Average & The Ugly

The Tuesday in general (with the exception of the Boodles) has been by far the “Good” with the Ultima my most successful and the Supreme & Arkle next best. Historically I’ve tended to spend far too much effort nailing the Tuesday winners in advance, as that’s the day I’ve typically attended and...

Brandy Love declared for Wednesday. I want to bet her for the Mares but think I’ll wait until after that race as it’s going right handed again so has to be a chance she’ll be a bigger price after the race because she’s also conceding the G1 penalty.

    The 2023 Longshot Thread

Not too disappointed with that re my 85.0 voucher for Cheltenham. He looks an out and out stayer who with a clearer run and quicker jump at the last, would have been even closer. A stiffer and more truly run 3m in the Spud race will suit him, as long as Gordon runs him - he is entered.

    Ascot Chase

The bet for me is Shishkin NRNB @ 4/1 to win the Ryanair. He wins well on Saturday and he’s < 2/1 He goes close then the Ryanair bet is still active as it’s unlikely Nicky will have him 100% 3 weeks out IMO and he’s unlikely to be any bigger than 4/1 He gets beat convincingly then there has to...

    Ascot Chase

If Edwardstone is the potential QMCC winner many think he is and with Greaneteen only being 6 lengths in front of Shiskin, with Dublin Chase winner Gentleman De Mee back in 4th. Was the Sandown run really that bad for his first outing since last year’s disastrous QMCC ? Where would Fakir have...

    The 2023 Longshot Thread

For reasons posted on the Cheltenham antepost thread, I’ve backed Search for Glory to win the Surehaul Mercedes Benz at Clonmel tomorrow plus the Albert Bartlett at 125/1 with Hills.

    Cheltenham 2023 antepost

I’ve just taken the 85.0 and a number of rates down about Elliott’s Search For Glory in the spud race. He’s been declared for the Mercedes Benz at Clonmel on Thursday, as has Hiddenvalley Lake. Search for Glory cost 200K at Tatts after a PTP win and then won a PTP flat race before finishing...

Once again, how bad is this for the sport that he was being traded at those prices before the news broke.

    Betfair Hurdle 2023

I backed up my Restitution bet with Teddy Blue @ 16 e/w. Wouldn’t surprise me what wins this though.

    Grand National 2023

If Corach Rambler jumps round he wins IMO. 20/1 worth the risk

My thoughts exactly and Marine Nationale would pay for the week, and some.

Cheltenham Thoughts - 1 month out

To win a G1, having overcome all sorts of problems, straight from winning a maiden hurdle race is impressive and despite arguably being clouded by big price tickets, I’m still sticking with Marine Nationale. He seems to have gone from being too short off the back of the Royal Bond to the...

    What Race Most Excites you

I’m not normally a huge fan of the Gold Cup but this year’s is interesting. We often hope to see the previous year’s best novices against the past winners only to be disappointed as many of them fail to progress from their novice campaigns and/or don’t make the race. In Galopin, Stattler...
