Hope it’s nothing serious with Captain Guinness, but was quite taken with the winner. He looked to be loving the jumping and there’s always a possibility he gets underestimated because of how the favourite ran

    2 Mile Chasers 20/21

I was almost embarrassed to tell anyone I’d backed him, but now you’ve broken cover am happy to admit (for virtually the same reason) he’s my only AP bet in the race!

Really looking forward to seeing him today and hopefully he's near the top of the 2 milers this year

    Cheltenham 2020 / 2021

Gutted not to be there Friday but have booked the afternoon off work, will buy a case of Guinness, a paper copy of the Racing Post and munch my way through 3 overpriced cheeseburgers to make it feel realistic. On the plus side, I’ll get a partial membership refund, so already a few ££ ahead...

And to add, Third Time Lucki did it as expected with the big plus his jumping was excellent. A bright prospect

    Novice Hurdlers 2020/21

Hi archie. I’ve thought about this quite a bit and yes, agree the curtailed season will impact the hurdlers this year, but think that will be more the strength and field sizes of early season races. The quality (or not) of the festival bumper will probably still be relevant as trainers on both...

    John Oxx

Sea the Stars was my last flat love affair. Travelled over to Leopardstown for his Irish Champion win and and a print of his Arc success is sitting just above my head as I type this… Beautifully handled by his trainer who always came across as a proper gent and will always be one of my fondest...

    Novice Hurdlers 2020/21

First impressions are that last years Cheltenham bumper could be a good un… So far five of the field (3rd Queens Brook, 5th Eskylane, 10th One True King, 13th Ask A Honey Bee and 22nd Linelee king) have already won a maiden or novice hurdle. The others to have run and have done so respectably...

    The thoughts of the handicappers.

Including some jumps comment for the first time this season... Clean sweep for the O’Briens in the Dewhurst 13 Oct 20 You have to go all the way back to 2013 to find the last Darley Dewhurst winner that wasn’t crowned European Champion Two-Year-Old, but in the aftermath of last weekend’s...

Weight in the saddle, or on the Jockey.

Not something I’ve really considered, but first instinct is to go the other way, especially NH That’s because I’m guessing weight distribution may be better on top as opposed to in the saddle and a larger person would be physically stronger (the reason you have different weights in boxing)...

    Novice Hurdlers 2020/21

It's not something I normally associate with Elliott, but even a couple of his higher profile winners (Queens Brook, Eskylane) have sort of fallen in, so wouldn’t be surprised if his novices improve significantly on their 2nd starts

Nice 2 1/2m listed race this afternoon and here’s my brief assessment: Fiddlerontheroof – top rated hurdler, always going to be a chaser, decent course form (a positive at Chepstow). Almost certain to come on for the run and trainer had an in & out day yesterday Fusil Raffles – Good hurdler...

And the winner was the one I didn’t mention  He did incredibly well to get up as was comfortably out-jumped at most fences & clearly stays well. A likeable performance but can’t believe he’d beat the winner next time if they met under the same conditions As you say viking, Enrilo jumped...

Mcfabulous did it great and very much like an odds-on shot should. Doubt he'll be appearing on this thread again.... Bravmansgame looked very inexperienced and will surely improve bundles but so will Soaring Glory who was given a cool ride by Jonjo junior. A pair of above standard horses I reckon

Smart little 3m chase at Chepstow this afternoon, but am struggling to find a bet Ask Dillon – strong in the market, yard in form Enrilo – one of those “always been a chaser in the making…” types Ofalltheginjoints – bit to find on hurdles ratings, but has a course win and cd be the time to...
