    Irish Derby 2025

Ascot was very quick but they put 5mm on every night - and isnt the accepted wisdom nowadays that horse run fastest on good to firm rather than firm ground ?

    Irish Derby 2025

Haggas will be cheered up - perhaps Merchant might skip the Gordon and throw his hat into the KG ring now. I think there is something amiss with Pride of Arras.

    The 2025 Northumberland Plate (Handicap)

I am with Euronymous on this - became an irrelevance of a race once it went AW - criminal that the BHA alllowed Arc to do it .

    Ascot Take Outs Day 5

I just don't think a seventh race each day was necessary - its not for anyone's benefit except the World Pool .

He ran like a drain in the Greenlands too.

    Ascot Take Outs Day 5

Nick Luck and Simon Holt were sacked just because they wanted new faces at ITV . Oli Bell I think is improving but is dumped in the old Thommo role which is a waste - Harvey and Fitzgerald are terrible . As for Meg Nicholls and Adele Mulrennan - racing's nepotism at work not talent

ITV should offer Lydia Hislop a big cheque to do post race interviews when she is not working for Racing TV - she is a class apart as her work at Cheltenham shows every year.

    Ascot Take Outs Day 5

I think they could do with moving a few races around 1 Have a staying race each day so swop the Copper House with one of Friday's handicaps 2 Move the Jersey back to Wednesday and Royal Hunt Cup back to the third race on the card. The Duke of Cambridge would be a good fit on the Saturday...

    Ascot Take Outs Day 5

I can understand why Marquand was so cross with himself but the horse was finsihing as fast as he could not sure the whip issue cost him . I think the ground beat him over that trip.

The 2025 Royal Ascot Tuesday Thread

Probably though with a proper gallop Rosallion and Notable Speech may be tougher nuts to crack than the St James's Palace field especially once Ruling Court did not turn up. How bad is Lake Victoria's injury ? She might be more of a handful.

The 2025 Royal Ascot Wednesday Thread

I see Reynier has said Flavien Prat gave Facteur Cheval the worst ride ever given to one of his horses. I think he has a point if you want to get a doubtful stayer definitely to be beaten in a10f G1 that's the way to do it. Also sounds like the booking was owner choice . Daft when Marquand...

Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

Yes the Booster was not the horse he was by Christmas 2004 - the issue was also in Graded races the other jockeys had worked out after the 2004 CH that he was much less effective off an ordinary gallop - and as Terry Warner's only possible pacemaker was so inferior as to be ignored they tried...

Lester rode Commanche Run - Cauthen on Pebbles - they did play cat and mouse with each other and Raymond and Bob Back caught them . As I recall they both beat Bob Back easily later in the season . However, I cannot see either of them riding the " after you sir" crawling along race that most of...

It's fast ground sometimes they break down - very sad though she looked impressive at Newmarket.

Watching it I was thinking - Cauthen or Piggott would have taken the race by the scruff of the neck if they had been on Lead Artist or Dancing Gemini - if the pace was too slow for their rides they made it unless it was a horse that had to be held up .

    In Memoriam (racing people)

M H Easterby also trained that good miler handicapper St Ninian who in 1991 with Lester up won the Newbury Spring Cup and the now sadly defunct Jubilee Handicap . The late Mark Birch had ridden him to be second in the Lincoln - I suspect it was the owner Lady Murless that called for Lester...

Salieri was a very good horse but 7f stretched him as when turned over by Annie Edge at Doncaster.

No Bombs and the Mars Bar theft disqualification another story that comes to mind.

Carson didn't - he thought Gorytus was soft . He was receiving a lot of weight from Salieri at York and when the Racetech ? video appeared on YT a few years back - the winning distance was exaggerated by Piggott easing Salieri.
