Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

The Bet 365 Gold Cup is not a race in which to run a novice that fell the time before . Very sad.

End of the line for Fist

Always tough when a forumite is lost . I remember when dear old Alan Morgan went missing early in 2004 that the late Lord H made enquiries and found out he had passed on . Others of course include Diamond Geezer and the brothers The Cardiffian and Merlin the Magician.

The 2025 Epsom Downs Spring meeting on Tuesday....

Karabas won in 1969 en route to the Washington International. It’s a meeting that is a shadow of its former self . Was 3 days when I was a kid all on ITV with the Princess Elizabeth Stakes and the Warren Stakes too.

The 2025 Epsom Downs Spring meeting on Tuesday....

Didn’t Derby winners sometimes run in it a long time ago it was so valuable . Sea Chimes won it I recall before coming back to win the Coronation Cup.

    The 2025 Queen's Cup Handicap

Only this and Wolves on the Flat on Easter Saturday really poor. Kempton should never have been allowed to move the Rosebury card and those tossers at Great British Racing should never have been allowed conniving with the bookies to have racing on Good Friday when Easter Monday racing is so...

Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

Richard Johnson put up a short video of LLT on twitter on Gold Cup day eating - he looked old but it seems had a good life to the end and was much loved . Indeed, seriously underrated and subsequent careers I reckon showed he would have beaten Nick Dundee that day.

Horses you never forgave and couldn’t like

The Mares Chase at Cheltenham ought to be named after Glencaraig Lady not Liberthine who was nowhere near as good a mare and whose best runs came at Aintree. She beat a high class field Royal Toss, The Dikler, Crisp . L'Escargot and Spanish Steps

Horses you never forgave and couldn’t like

Wayward Lad's last race - winning what is now the Aintree Bowl in 1987 is still on You Tube . Graham McCourt rather than Bradley rode him as the latter rode Stearsby . Still brings a tear to the eye as the old boy having looked in a bit of trouble turning in storms up the straight jumping just...

Horses you never forgave and couldn’t like

Her achievements were terrific especially with her crackpot owner driving Paddy Mullins mad . She was a bit fortunate I always felt though in the horses that were missing from her big wins . Burrough Hill Lad was wrong after the 1985 KG and missed her GC. Gaye Brief did his back in when jumping...

Horses you never forgave and couldn’t like

His brother Douvan I never really took to at all. Wasn’t all that surprised when he blew out in the 2017 Champion Chase.

    The 2025 Spring Cup (Handicap)

Glad to see the round course back in action but strange such a low limit of runners nowadays - there were 19 when Lester and St Ninian won it in 1991.

    Tom Queally

The greatest horses don't always get the greatest riders. I mean Pat Taaffe was hardly John Francome .

    Tom Queally

There is that other X rated video of Geoff Lewis getting boxed in - the 1969 Eclipse on Park Top ... Available on You Tube to those not of a nervous disposition.

He certainly did with the jockey he was using at the time.

I think the success of his offspring suggest that Frankel would have stayed a mile and a half under Lester or Cauthen .

Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

Glad he was retired feared the worst when he was so quickly dismounted and the screens went up.

    Tom Queally

I remember Carson commenting that if Frankel had turned up when Piggott or Cauthen was HRAC's stable jockey he reckoned he would have run in the Derby . I imagine that did not go down well with Queally. His ride on Frankel in the St James's Palace must go down as one of the worst winning rides...

    The 2025 Lincoln Handicap

Another example , however, of the move towards more and more shorter races . Not one of the races at the 2 day meeting is longer than 10f since the scrapping of the Doncaster Shield.
