What are you backing Today? Part 2

A decent run by Scarface but I wasn’t happy with his jumping as he just didn’t seem to be getting away from the fences quickly enough especially the last when he landed on all fours a bit. Might have won if he’d pinged that one

What are you backing Today? Part 2

Newbury 2.40 Scarface lost all chance at Newbury last time with a bad mistake when Brendan Powell nearly came off and is worth another go at 6/1 having been dropped 1lb to his last winning mark. Those who finished in front of him at Ascot have all run well since (without winning) so I’m happy to...

    The Two Mile Chasers

Maybe not but I thought he said 4 festival races

    The Two Mile Chasers

I’d guess the Mares Hurdle and Mares Novice besides the QMCC and Arkle which have been mentioned above

    BetVictor Handicap Chase

I was tracking it too. No Heltenham at 10.30

    Cheltenham Gold Cup

I’m a subscriber to the theory that the win at the DRF took more out of GDC than they had thought. Also Inothewayurthinkin proved more effective than expected on better ground

Sir Gino back at Seven Barrows. Great news but he’s not certain to race again https://www.racingpost.com/news/britain/sir-gino-back-at-nicky-hendersons-yard-with-trainer-hopeful-star-chaser-can-make-racecourse-return-awQdR8i1cFk4/

    Cheltenham Gloom

It’s not only not having time for me but I have real difficulty interpreting much of the Irish form. Graded races apart I generally have little idea of the quality of some of the form

The goods and the bads from this week

For me the good things were SkyBet renaming the Supreme in memory of Michael O’Sullivan The reception given to Jeremy Scott after the Champion Hurdle The Marine Nationale/Jazzy Marty double on Wednesday Ruby Walsh’s insightful analysis on ITV. I particularly enjoyed the way he rubbished Nico de...

What's the worse way to lose?

I used to get very annoyed when one I’d backed lost out in a close finish to one whose rider subsequently got a ban for overuse of the whip when mine had been ridden legally. Fortunately that seems to be a thing of the past now they can DSQ a winner for a whip offence by the jockey

2025 Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle

Me too. As soon as he set off in front I was thinking you’ll never win a Martin Pipe from the front. Bizarre really as she’d always been held up before maybe her lengthy absence had given Dan Skelton too much time to think and he concluded a change in tactics was the right way forward

    The 2025 Grand National

I would be thinking about cashing out if it was being offered but it’s not (backed with Corals)

A real shame there as Wendigo looked like being involved in the finish before being squeezed out by the eventual runner up (I think). The way he ran on again after being brought to a standstill with Gavin nearly falling off makes me think he’d have gone close

    2025 County (Handicap) Hurdle

Unfortunately not. I was so disgusted that I’d missed the 40s that I took 25s with Bet365 whereas Sky were only going 16s. A great ride from Freddie but disappointing the horse let Spirit d’Aunou by after I thought he’d got the better of that one Very poor run by Valgrand

Along with hundreds of others I have a very small share in Wendigo via the Racing Club. Nowhere near the level of interest that others on here have with their runners but exciting nonetheless to have some involvement (however small) with a runner at the festival. It’s certainly generated some...

    2025 County (Handicap) Hurdle

Valgrand and Our Champ for me too. Agree Valgrand looks like he’s been laid out for this and the last two efforts look very half-hearted. Maybe Skelton hatched a plot for this race after the horse was firmly put in his place by Potters Charm following his earlier demolition job at Cheltenham in...
