    Modus Operandi

I make most of my money on antepost. My biggest returns coming from playing the Cheltenham Festival for 12 months a year. I'm happy to tie up funds because I regard returns as a dividend. Shorter term I play antepost on any race where I can part make a book with horses I am reasonably confident...

    The John Smith's Cup

5 for me antepost: Mahrajaan 12/1 Greatgadian 16/1 Brilliant Light 20/1 Achelois 25/1 Caradoc 25/1 I thought I'd backed Intellogent as well, but I can only assume I didn't hit the 'confirm bet' button, which is very annoying. I've missed the price now and he's too short at 8/1. Not all of it...

    The 2022 Longshot Thread

Another we agree on OS. I'm sure I put him up somewhere after his last run behind Vadeni. I backed him and certainly intended to. I can't find my post though so perhaps I forgot to post. He'll benefit for the step up to a mile and half. He was given too much to do and was staying on really...

The very best of luck today KA. She has a leading chance, and hopefully it's a nice stepping stone to the Galway Hurdle. I'm sure you've heard this anyway, but Saint Roi has also been working well. It should be between SWIW and him.

    One for Barjon?

I'd have posted earlier but I've only just seen this. For info I was told last night from a good source that Soulcombe wins this.

At least the last line we agree on. You've ridden enough horses to know what the good ones do when something comes to them. You're right Strad did win off a fast pace in 2018, but you miss my point. Strad has been been beaten in 3 of his last 4 races. By better horses than he is now, and not...

    2022 Arc Thread

La Petit Coco was good winner of the Pretty Polly yesterday and I'm really interested in her for the Arc. She's quietly building up a very good record. Her beating of Love as a 3 year old reading particularly well. Already proven at a mile an half, and in soft ground. And I really like that...

    Royal Ascot 2022

I never buy into the 'would have won' arguments. Who's to say Kyprios wouldn't have pulled out more? What I do believe is that Kyprios would benefit from a more strongly run race, and I'm not convinced Strad does or would now.

It's called respect. Irrespective of what John Gosden thinks about Frankie he should handle his business behind closed doors. Frankie may or may not have overstepped a mark recently. If he did we don't know for certain what it was he did. We do know for certain that he had a couple of shockers...

    Bunbury cup

Yes, makes it more likely that Star of Orion goes to Ascot instead you'd think. I can cash out for a profit and may do that now.

    Royal Ascot 2022

The winner and the second are four year olds that are likely to improve and peak as 6 or 7 year olds in staying races Tan. The fact that they finished 1st and 2nd in this so early in their careers marks them out as very good horses. Kyprios has clearly been improving as he's stepped up in trip...

    Bunbury cup

Rhoscolyn 104 (+1), and Star Of Orion 96 (-2) post Ascot marks. I'm very happy with that. Rhoscolyn could have gone up more in my opinion, He was clear of those in the centre group, where none of the others finished better than midfield, and he had to come from a terrible position. Worth a...

    Bunbury cup

They were unlucky in running at Ascot, so I think they'll take there chance personally OS. Nothing worse than holding one back and then getting no run for a target race twice over.

    The John Smith's Cup

I'll add Achelois into the mix as well. Doesn't look like it sees the 1m2f trip out on soft ground, but otherwise looks like the progressive sort that Balding does well with in these kind of races. He's very good at targeting them well out too, and I'd imagine this has been the target for some...

    Bunbury cup

I don't think Find will get in anyway OS. Most likely he'd be balloted out. The ones that interests me are Dark Shift 33/1 (PP/SB), Star Of Orion 50/1 (SB/BF), and Rhoscolyn 66/1 (PP/SB). Dark Shift and/or Rhoscolyn may end up elsewhere given they're entered up in Ireland the week after, but...

A brutal start to the day. The first three home were the bottom three in the market.

Have I missed something? Mark Johnston is usually mob-handed at Royal Ascot. I know his son is involved now, but have owners gone running and they're winding down, or is there another explanation?

The 2022 'Should be odds-on' Thread

I'm on Lysander in the Edward VII. I'm not convinced by Changinofhteguard or what the Ottoman Fleet form is worth, and they both strike me as too short. 5/1 with a boost on Lysander on the other hand is much too big in what I think is a three horse race with there unlikely to be too much between...

What are you backing Today? Part 2

If you like Yashin it's worth taking a look at Vina Sena at a big price Outsider. 25/1 looks very big each way.

    Ante-Post Punting Plans/Propositions Thread.

The one I took out of the race for the Arc was Al Hakeem. He's highly regarded and we won't see the best of him until he's stepped up to a mile and half.
