Yes I agree that overdose should have gone down as the winner of that race, it was most unfortunate. But Marchand is a very good horse too and I look forward to seeing him again - he was very impressive at Newmarket last July

A trainer friend of mine said that the biggest part of his job was knowing how to deal with disappointed people, which after all is what most trainers, bar 6 or 10, are doing on every course at every meeting. The most important part of that job is presumably managing expectations

The course is low lying and very flat, so although the drainage is much improved, once they've had a bit of rain it does get into the ground. One thing is, that the Clerk does call the gorund correctly, almost always. It will detract from the value of the races as form though, if it comes up...
