L’arc De Triomphe ticket advice etc.

The area across the bridge from the racecourse is a great area to stay , eat, drink and be merry. A mere ten minute walk from the track. Ticket prices are crazy compared to the way they used to be. Best ask someone who was there over the past few years.

That was enjoyable even if the ground was over watered , for us at least. The winner was very impressive but has a long back and I wonder if he will be a long term proposition. Our fellow barely stays 2 miles so the last furlong would be a problem even on a track less heavily watered. Rocking on...

The 2025 York August Meeting Day 1 (Wednesday) thread

Context was Barathea 's run in Jacques Le Marois years ago. Fabre supplied a "pacemaker " for Sheikh Mohammed who didn't do his job. John G considers such duties to be beneath Fabre. Hence he controlled the jockey by booking his own dependable one, the Sussex Stakes still fresh in his mind also.

    The 2025 International Stakes

Said to have been galloping into a head wind up the straight ; had the wind been behind Birr Castle it could have been real interesting. Gosden did well to get Havlin the ride on the pacemaker; check out Racing Greats; Gosden on RTV for the explanation. Ombudsman the best horse however; looking...

The 2025 York August Meeting Day 1 (Wednesday) thread

Anyone who watched the John Gosden "Racing Greats " edition , repeated last Sunday on RTV would have taken note of his observation of Andre Fabre supplying a pacemaker for anyone else beneath him. Gosdens did well to have Rob Havlin ride the pacemaker , he did his job; it was the other jockeys...

    Oisin Murphy's Book

Apparently he was p-p-p-p-picked up by penguin books. Cathartic is the word I believe; express your feelings to feel better afterwards. Whether or not you publish it depends on the penguin I suppose. "Sacrifice " is the title . I can imagine Slim publishing a reply titled " Burnt Offerings ".

Hopeful Hero has been declared for Killarney Thursday . Alan O'Sullivan does the steering again. 8 runners, only the Slattery runner to worry about (apart from holes, meteors, shooting stars , famine, swarms of wasps , the Loch Leane Monster, the Ghost of Ross Castle , the Healy Raes, angry...

    2025 In Memoriam (Racing People)

Tommy Murphy. Wexford born jockey that was a traditional dual purpose jockey, equally adept on the flat or over obstacles. Galway Hurdle winners, Cheltenham Festival and Classic winners all came alike to this horseman who took no prisoners on the track. When Johnny Murtagh toyed with riding...

All are fine, thanks for asking. It began a perfect day; sun shining, nice drying wind , quiet road to the races. Bit by bit things began to fall apart. The price plummeted through the morning, expecting 20/1 I had to settle for 10s . The reason was that one member siphoned the price off for...

Hopeful Hero heads for Roscommon Tuesday once the storm does not change the going too much. Alan O'Sullivan takes the ride . A hot enough race with Ripsnorter , who finished third 6 L ahead of us at Killarney, nice looking debutants from Gavin Cromwell (half brother to My Mate Mozzie from Flame...

Indeed. Noel always wears his heart on his sleeve when it comes to racing. That win would have been a thing of beauty for him 45 years on from Pinch Hitter and co.

HIs dam Emulous was a proper good game mare for D K Weld. Bluestocking's half brother so has a career as a stallion to boot. Beckett in amazing form so best of luck to them. Goodwood can do that .

Alan O'Sullivan's win in the Amateur race is the feelgood story of the week, if not the year. Fair dues to Emmet and JP for managing that .

    Edward O'Grady

Edward O'Grady was born to racing royalty. His father Willie trained for Anne , Duchess Of Westminster among others. Kinloch Brae was the best horse he trained. Dubbed the next Arkle after his Cathcart Cup Chase win 1969 Festival , he started favourite for 1970 Gold Cup before unseating Tim Hyde...

    Jockey News

Paul Carberry once dyed his hair blonde Rose Of Tralee Race week. When the stewards called him after a race the inquiry was surprisingly short as the couldn't keep serious for any length. There may be method to Danny's madness given how tight Galway is.

    Galway Festival 2025

I believe that diseased novice chase at Kilbeggan was the one used to prep Grimes for the Galway Plate all those years ago. He didn't even bother winning it , but got 10-0 or less in the Plate and they never saw which way he went. Joseph has given Nurburgring a proper prep also tbf.
