    70s

This is not one of my favourite songs, but it may be the only one to mention the Lanark Silver Bell (6:35 race at Hamilton today ).

    The 2025 Longshot Thread

Silent Film - 8:15 Newcastle, Thursday, 1 mile ( Racing League ). 28/1. Worth doing with Lir Speciale (12/1) just for the sake of it.

The 2025 York August Meeting Day 1 (Wednesday) thread

Pocklington is entered for the valuable six furlong sprint handicap, the 4:10 at York, on Saturday. He's one of the few Geoff Oldroyd horses not to have won recently.

What are you backing Today? Part 2

Hannah McMahon's recent record doesn't suggest that her first winner is imminent. Well done for picking Harel Du Marais to win the slalom race at Market Rasen. It's too early for me to resume my interest in Jump racing , but Mark Howard's One Jump Ahead should be available by the end of September.

The 2025 York August Meeting Day 1 (Wednesday) thread

I think he was entered - but can't prove it - for the valuable Connacht Hotel (QR) Handicap on the Monday of the Galway Festival, but wasn't declared to run. He was subsequently a non-runner in a non-handicap later in the week. It could be that the Irish handicapper is refusing to give the...

The 2025 York August Meeting Day 1 (Wednesday) thread

I'm puzzled. Today's Racing Post News section has a feature " One eyecatching entry to note in each of the supporting races on York's Ebor Festival day one card ". The horse mentioned for the 4:10 race is A Dream To Share with a write-up about his win in the 2023 Cheltenham Bumper and win on the...

    The 2025 Racing League

I've got 14/1 about a 7/1 shot ( Silent Age ) and the 75p win double with Whathappensinvegas would be very nice.

The 2025 York August Meeting Day 1 (Wednesday) thread

A Dream To Share for the Kielys and JP has been entered for the 4:10 race on Wednesday, the two mile handicap. I am guessing that its handicap mark will be revealed tomorrow.

The 2025 Old Newton Cup (Handicap)

Did you mean the Old Borough Cup in a month's time on what used to be Vernon's Sprint Day?

    What are you watching

A short film about Newmarket in characteristic Meades style, featuring Sir Mark Prescott ( briefly ), The Osmonds, and Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg.

There are also entries for the Arc and the mares' race on Champions Day at Ascot. She's German owned so the Group 1s in late September at Cologne and early November in Munich over a mile and a half which Alpinista won as a 4-year-old can't be ruled out.

    The 2025 Shergar Cup

Any of the Shergar Cup races will be much easier than those two. I found a quote from Ian Williams in the Racing Post dated 22/9/2024. " When you've got opportunities like the Shergar Cup and Racing League, they might not be everyone's cup of tea, but they should be embraced because of the...

    Galway Festival 2025

A Dream To Share wasn't entered in the Qualified Riders handicap ( 6:40 on Monday ) either. JP has Dawn Rising and The Shunter in this race and two others as well. I remembered your comment at the end of March that A Dream To Share would be aimed at a race at Galway.

    Children's camps

I have read the 2023 Little Toller Books edition of Michael Morpurgo's first book All Around the Year, published in 1979, which relates in diary format a year in the life of Parsonage Farm in North Devon. This is one of the farms involved with Farms for City Children, and the book's sale...

    Why so many....

Official reason for three of the non-runners in the 2:25 at Newbury ( Contacto, Kyle of Lochalsh, and Wonder Legend ) was that the going had changed since the declarations on Thursday. It's officially good to firm today, and was good to firm ( good in places yesterday ). I don't know what the...

    Trainer news

I noted his rule - " One hint of a drug and you're out ". I can't recall any instances of him being fined for horses failing drug tests either for cross-contamination or for medication being administered improperly.
